Helen I. Sansom passed away peacefully at her home in San Antonio, Tx on May 14, 2013, after a gallant fight of a long illness at the age of 68. Helen was born on a December day 1944, in Monroe La., the youngest daughter of the late Elmo And Inez Gobble. The first 21 years of her life was spent in and around Monroe, becoming educated and working at her first job as a hairdresser. In 1966 she married a career Naval Aviator, Ed Sansom. For the next 23 years she was a Navy wife. During these years, her life was busy but rewarding, moving frequently, raising a daughter and keeping the family on even keel, all the while enduring numerous family separations due to Navy deployments. While stationed in Florida and again in Houston Tx. she owned and ran a small company. In 1989, Commander Ed and Helen retired from the Navy and relocated to San Antonio, where they became involved in Real Estate. Helen had many roles in life, wife, sister, mother, aunt, but the one she treasured most was Grandma. Her grandchildren were her life. Helen crammed a whole lot of living into her 68 years, despite her life-long, painful handicap. She enjoyed many activities, but particularly liked fishing, sea cruises, the slots, the Spurs winning and family. The earth lost a strong, brave, wonderful lady, but Heaven has a new whole Angel. She is survived by Edward Sansom, her loving husband of 47 years, her cherished daughter, Crystal J. Sleeper and her husband Lionel Sleeper, along with Crystal's children and Helen's Grandchildren, Shelby Schroder, Emily Schroder and Cole Schroder, all of Kennewick Wa. Her sisters, Alice and her husband Archie Gilliland, and Pat Hunt, both of Monroe La. Her sister and brother-in-laws, Carol And John Winfield,.of Dunkirk Md. , Sherrel and Larry Fischer, of St Louis Mo. and Patty and Eric Funderburk.of San Antonio. Along with numerous nephews and a niece and their spouses. A Memorial Service will take place on Monday June 10, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Mission Park, 3401 Cherry Ridge, San Antonio Tx. In lieu of flowers you may give a donation in Helen's name to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave Shreveport La , 71103.
