Henry Mata Flores Born: 07/15/1927 at home in San Antonio, Texas Passed: 03/08/2023 at home in San Antonio, Texas Age: 95 Cause of Death: Natural, Our Heavenly Father called him home Henry was born in San Antonio to Juan Flores and Maria Mata from Monterrey, Mexico . He served his country in the Army Air Core in the years 1946 and 1947 at the end of World War II. He served in Japan assisting with reorganization. He received the Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal in Japan. He married Magdalena Hernandez in Vera Cruz, Mexico on two days, Dec 7, 1955 (civil) and Dec 8, 1955 (church) whom he brought to live in the U.S. He welcomed four children: John Henry (Johnny), Mary Esther (Maite), Arthur and Roberto; His lineage grew to include numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even great, great grandchildren as follows: Grandchildren: Vincent, Steven, Sarah, Michael, Eric, Arthur Jr., Melissa, Jay, Debra, Denise, Kathleen; Great Grandchildren: Silas, Malachi, Karie, Courtney, Kaleb, Kaylynn, Tristan, Alexis, Alex, Dominic, Eugene, Arianna, Elena, Amayalyn, Jazzlyn, Brianna, Karah, Victoria, Joseph, Jacob, Paul and Isabella; Great Grandchildren: Gracelynn, Alexander, Lorenzo, and Seline. He is preceded in death by all his siblings, Alma, Delia, Virginia, Oscar, and Jesus, “Chito.” He is also preceded in death by his nephew, Manual (Duke) and his niece, Debbie; many cousins and lifelong friends. He was the last of an era. Henry was a loyal and devoted husband and father. He was a splendid example of a righteous man. He thought long and hard before making any decisions to ensure that his decisions would be a benefit to all involved. Although he did not complete his early education, he received his GED / Diploma and then continued his adult education to receive an Associate Degree in Art. After returning stateside from Japan, he worked many jobs and so gained a wide variety of knowledge and experience. He retired from Kelly Air Force Base after 30 years civil service where he worked as an Electronics Troubleshooter. He received many awards and commendations for his service. Throughout his long and prosperous life he enjoyed being a husband, father, and friend. He had friends from his childhood (from the age of around 5 or 6) that continued into his adulthood. He had very fond memories growing up near San Pedro Creek, Five Points area and downtown S.A. He visited friends and family as often as he could. He enjoyed camping, trips to the beach, treasure hunting, crossword puzzles, and even took up jogging back in the ‘70’s. He developed his own family lineage record (before ancestry.com). In his last years he enjoyed watching the news, his daily TV programs, suspense and mystery shows like Midsomer Murders and he also enjoyed listening to the great Latin artists like Javier Solis. Of all the many blessings However great or small To have had you for a Husband, Father Was the greatest one of all. The family chain is broken now And nothing seems the same But as God takes us one by one The chain will link again.
