Hipolito “Don Polo” Lugo January 30, 1937 – March 17, 2025 Hipolito “Don Polo” Lugo was born January 30, 1937 in Penuelas, Puerto Rico to Damian Lugo and Julia Medina Lugo. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home on March 17, 2025. He was 88. Survivors include his wife Carmen Aida of 70 years; Daughters: Norma Figueroa and husband Osvaldo, Yolanda Lugo-Goodwin and husband Michael Kinnaird, Olga Rivera and husband Francisco, Carmen I. Lugo and husband Richard, Ada Rivera, Emeli Lugo-Atkinson and husband Alonzo, Elba Mirella Garcia and husband Ariel, and Egda Minerva Vega and husband Alexander; Sons: Edwin Lugo and wife Jessica, and Edwin A. “Tito” Lugo; Sisters Isabel Ortiz, Gladys Bello, Julia Alvarado, and Luz Elenia Collazo; a Brother, Manuel Ortiz. Hipolito is also survived by 28 Grandchildren, 56 Great-grandchildren, 10 Great-great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family. Known to all as a true patriarch, Polo is remembered for always putting his family first. From their days in Ponce, Puerto Rico where he established his family in a home, he built himself to their move to Massachusetts, Polo was endeared by his family as their provider and protector. His drive to provide for his large family led him to become a man of many trades from barber to factory worker to small business owner, there wasn’t anything Polo didn’t know how to do. He is remembered for his cooking and being the family’s unifier, bringing them together often and keeping the family close. He was a proud and exceptional grandfather. As ‘Guelo’ to his grandchildren, he had a special bond and relationship with each. He was admired for his directness, his ability to problem solve and his little inventions that now seem so profound. His love for the Boston Red Sox has permeated through multiple generations of the family. There was so much more to him than just husband, father and grandfather, though to us that was his greatest role. SERVICES The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30am on Friday, March 21 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels – Dominion. Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Mission Park Funeral Chapels – Dominion. Interment will follow at Mission Park Retama Cemetery.
