Ila Lee Stout Darnell was received into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday May 20th 2009 at the age of 86. She was born at Bishop in Ellis county, Oklahoma October 31st, 1922. She was married to Orval Darnell in Alva, OK in 1943. Ila was a retired school teacher having taught 35 years in a span from 1942 to 1986 when she had to retire because of her health. She taught in Oklahoma, Arizona, Kentucky and Texas in both public and private schools. Mostly in the primary grades, but loved children of all ages. In between her teaching jobs, she was a typist, and receptionist and worked in the public relations office at the 11th Naval District Headquarters in San Diego California during World War II. She was a receptionist in the registrar's office of Oklahoma A&M now Oklahoma State University at Stillwater, OK from 1946 to 1949 while her husband was in college there. She also typed medical records for a neurosurgeon who had helped with Orval's head surgery in 1959. Ila loved games and also music. She had several hobbies including playing the piano, mostly by ear, and often said her playing was therapy for her, but was pleased if other people enjoyed it. She was a loving caring and thoughtful person, had a great sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by many people who love her, including: Husband of many years – Orval O. Darnell; Sisters – Othel Rippstein and Vivian Butts; Daughter – Donita Naylor and Son-in-law, John; Son – Tom Darnell and Daughter-in-law, Gaylynn; Grandchildren – Michele & Cynthia. David, Brian, Emily & Nathan; Nieces & Nephew – Sue Wilson, Linda Nicholson, Judy Davis, Ken Butts & Reta Horner; Great Grandchildren – Zachari, Devin, Sydnee, Kassidee, Hannah, Joseph, Richard & Matthew. Services Visitation will be held Monday May 25th, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 1902 Vance Jackson San Antonio, TX 78213-4455. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park North. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
