Ima H. Speights (age 76) passed away from this earth into Heaven and the arms of Jesus, her Savior, on Friday, December 22, 2023. Ima is preceded in death by her parents, Glenn H. and Ethellean “Jean” Hood, and sister, Patricia “Tisa” A. Lewis. Ima is survived by her husband, James “Jim” W. Speights; her sons, William N. Allan IV (Tera) and Jason Speights (Laura); daughter, Melissa Lewis Gottschalk (Gary); grandsons, William N. Allan V, Bode T. Allan and Luke D. Allan; granddaughters, Hannah E. Speights and Katherine C. Speights; sister, Glenda F. Armstrong (Donald); brother, Jimmy L. Hood, nephew, Jimmy Hood Jr., and nieces, Jenny Nichols, Alicia Hood, Jacque Hood, Autumn Hood and Savannah Hood. Ima was born on November 8, 1947 in Florala, Alabama. She was “military brat” who moved from military base to military base with her family. She was outgoing and attributed her ability to talk and make friends quickly to her father’s military career that took her to 8 different cities, many of those cities in other countries. Her sister describes Ima’s personality growing up as a “go getter and very well liked by everyone.” Her brother describes her formative personality as “a protector, provider, the light in the room, compassionate with a huge heart. Ima made everyone feel accepted and important – that you mattered in this world.” Ima exuded these sibling described attributes and characteristics throughout her life. Ima ultimately landed in San Antonio, Texas where she lived the rest of her life vibrantly allowing Jesus’ light to shine through her. She was, without question, a wonderful wife, mother, aunt and friend. Her love, humor, generosity, bubbly and upbeat personality traits as well as her contagious laugh will be remembered by her family and friends.
