On April 27, 2007, Irma Cordova McIntyre joined our Lord and Savior in everlasting life to share in the eternal promise of Resurrection. She was born October 22, 1927 in San Antonio to Jesus Cordova from La Barqa, Jalisco Mexico and Concepcion Gaitán Cordovva of Villadalma, Nuevo Len, Mexico. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic Academy High School in San Antonio where she was fortunate to be one of the few Mexican-American students in this predominate German-American school. It is believed this is when she obtained her lifelong love for German food. She was preceded in death by her husbands Julius Winn Benavides and Joseph Debs McIntyre. She is survived by her sister Blanca Dalia Gonzalez Ismael, Argentina Peña, and Adolph Cordova Yolanda. She is also survived by her four sons; Luis Julián Benavides Sandra, Marcos Antonio Benavides Jackie, Victor Hugo Benavides Melea of Atlanta, GA and Miguel Angel Benavides Elma of Georgetown. She has ten grandchildren; Luis Xavier Benavides of Boston, MA, Joshua A. Benavides Roxana, Angela A. Hernandez Jaime, Kenneth Ryan Benavides Erin of Ft. Bragg, N.C. Davin Lee Benavides Alisia of Wake Forest, N.C., Casey Marie Benavides, Julian Charles Benavides, Wilson Cordova Benavides, step-grandchildren: Grayson Gable Ferrari and Armand Amarigo Ferrari and three great-grandchildren; E. Diego Hernandez, Hudson Benavides and Naomi Benavides of Wake Forest, N.C. Irma was one of the first Mexican-American women to be department head at USAA and was very proud of her granddaughter when she went to work at USAA. Irma was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Altar Society and she loved to attend the monthly Bunko Tournaments and VIP club at the church. She also loved all the activities provided by the Women's Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Council #7770. Visitation for Irma will take place Tuesday, May 1, 2007 from 4 PM to 9 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North with a Rosary to celebrate her life in Christ and dedication to Mother Mary to be recited at 7 PM. The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at 10 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 600 Oblate, San Antonio, TX Irma will be laid to rest at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Irma Cordova McIntyre Scholarship Trust at Security Service Federal Credit Union.
