Tributes

Isabel R. Austin was born on November 4, 1919 in Eagle Pass, Texas and went to be with the Lord on January 4, 2012 at the age of 92. A resident of San Antonio for over 60 years, she was a career civil service accountant who retired from Kelly AFB in 1973. She also worked at St. Mary's University as a secretary to basketball Coach Jim Heiser during the late 1950's and early 1960's. Isabel was a long time member of St. Matthew and most recently St. Brigid's Catholic Church. Isabel met the love of her life at a dance. She and "AW" then continued their courtship on the dance floor. When their arms joined together, you could always see their love blossom openly. Married for 62 years they belonged to the Star Light, Star Dusters, Jolly Dollar, and Candle Light Dance Clubs and made many long time friends there. AW and Isabel socialized and danced with these groups well into their eighties. They also loved weekend pot-luck gatherings with a wide circle of friends to play various card games. Isabel was also a dedicated gardener and enjoyed playing Bingo regularly. Monthly Bunco games with her granddaughter were a highlight for her recently as well as a monthly get together with the Young at Heart social group at St. Brigid's. Gramma loved the get-togethers with her extended family that included great meals and a few "Margaritas". When her great grandchildren arrived, they always made her eyes sparkle and put a beautiful smile on her face. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Audry William Austin and sister, Lily Whatley. Isabel is survived by her daughter, Sandra Fedor and husband John; grandchildren, Leslie Williams, Jason Fedor and wife Kriste, John D. Fedor Jr. and wife Abby; great grandchildren, Zachary Williams, Samantha Fedor, Taylor Fedor, Maty Fedor and Jack Fedor. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to ALS Association South Texas Chapter, "In Memory of Isabel Austin," 8600 Wurzbach, Suite 700, San Antonio, Texas 78240. SERVICES A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 13, 2012 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North with a Visitation 1-hour prior to service. A Private Inurnment will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
