WHITESIDE Jack Dempsey Whiteside born on October 18, 1934 and lost his battle to cancer, and he went to be with the Lord on April 2, 2014 at the age of 79. Well known south side business man for 55 years. Jack moved to Texas with his family about 1945 from Oklahoma. Jack got to know the south side well about the age of 11 when he rode his pet donkey, Joann, around while he delivered newspapers. As he became a teenager he delivered Western Union Telegrams on a bicycle all over the city. He attended Harlandale High School. Joined the navy in 1953 after coming home from the navy, he met Marilyn Carter in 1957 and they married in 1958. In 1959 their son Dale was born and 5 years later a daughter Jackie. Jacks first business was a Humble Station on Nogalitos and Zarzamora. Later a second Station at McCreless Mall. His third business was a convenient store and mobile home park on Roosevelt. His fourth and final business was Whiteside's Fuel on Southton Rd. Jack was a part time rancher at his ranch near Falls City, TX. He loved his church and the members at Harmony Baptist Church. He also love to restore old cars a 1931 model A Ford pick-up and a 1956 4 door hard top Chevy; Jack and Marilyn belonged to the Alamo City Car Club and enjoyed many shows and parades. Jack and Marilyn loved to square dance and were members of Lucky Squares; Marilyn said Jack was a great dancer. Very hard working, kind hearted, man of God is what would best describe this wonderful man that will be missed until we meet again. He is preceded in death by his parents Homer and Addie Whiteside, brother Richard Brice Whiteside, sister Zuma Whiteside, and grandson Garrett Lee Whiteside. Survivors include his beloved wife Marilyn G. Whiteside, daughter Jackie Lindsey and husband Chris, son Dale Holt Whiteside, sister Margie Bussell, brother Ottis Whiteside, grandchildren Jenny Rae Whiteside, Lisa, Vicki, and Mark, great grandchildren Mila Whiteside, Savannah, Taylor, Madilyn, and Leighton, numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park South.
