Tributes

Jim was born and raised in Alabama and as a child was a bit of a prankster. One of his favorite childhood stories to tell was how he, on a dare, jumped off of very high bridge into the river. He took many trips back to Alabama to fish with his brothers and visit. It seemed that every year the fish they caught were bigger and bigger. He always raved about his sisters Southern Home Cookin. He really loved a good meal. Jim was a 20 year Veteran of the Air Force. He proudly served his country and was a true patriot. During this time he traveled to such places as Washington D.C., Vietnam, Greenland, Germany, and San Antonio, Texas. It was at Lackland AFB that he met his beloved wife Glenda. They married on June 2, 1973 and with their 3 kids became a family. Family was very important to Jim and having fun with family and friends brought him great joy. He and Glenda bowled in a bowling league together; enjoyed neighborhood card parties; had countless coffee dates, and hosted Thanksgiving Family meals for 35 years without fail. One of the most treasured Family memories are the annual trips to the Texas Coast. Jim taught his kids how to fish, baiting countless hooks and taking the fish off the hook when kids were lucky enough to get one. He did this even though he would see his rods going under water when they let them go; and when they'd catch a ribbon fish, he'd laugh because they'd run down the beach with the fish chasing them. He was an expert at making fish faces! When he retired from the Air Force, he became a postman for the U.S. Postal Service. Postmen are known for being barked at and chased by dogs, but Jim loved animals and always found a way to befriend them. The family took in many strays over the years because of this. His favorite dog was "Boozer". When Jim retired from the Post Office he and Glenda spent time at the house and he finally got to golf as much as he wanted to. He enjoyed sitting in the clubhouse visiting with golfing buddies and playing cards almost as much as golfing. But, HOME is where his heart was and his sense of humor filled it with laughs. When the family gathered, he was always ready to tell a good joke, play a game, and share his latest funny toy. It was not uncommon to find him on all fours on the floor making silly animal noises with the grandkids. He was a proud "PaPaw"! His most common request for holiday gifts was for his family to come home. Now, it is his turn to "Come Home" through Our Savior Jesus. He will be greatly missed. His love and laughter will remain in each one of us until we're together again. He is Survived by his wife Glenda, daughters Kathy Luis, Karen Chris, son Robert Michelle, grandkids Frank Renee, J.J., Jennifer Renn, Madeline, Meredith and Michael, great grandkids Kaden, Carson, Kaylee, Kaci, and Kiley, one sister Emily, four brothers Glenn Ray, Jerry, Dwight Pat, and Doyle Jimmie.
