Janie G. Arcos passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023, surrounded by family after enduring a long illness. Janie was born to Beatrice and John V. Garza in San Antonio, Texas on February 8, 1938. She and her high school sweetheart, Louis C. Arcos Jr. married in December of 1958. They went on to have five daughters and from that moment on, her house was filled with laughter, love and family. Janie is preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters, Charlotte Madrigal, Aurora (Red) Martinez, Margot (Mickie) Ruiz, and her husband, Louis C. (Sonny) Arcos, Jr. She is survived by her devoted daughters, B. Denise Paniagua and her husband John, Jacqueline G. Arcos, Valerie Peterson, Annette Arcos and Terrilee Arcos-Davila; as well as her loving grandchildren, Sabrina York and her husband Brandon, Steven Paniagua and his wife JoAnne, Sydney Peterson and partner Bob Connor, Samantha Paniagua and Analisa Davila, five great-grandchildren and brother-in-law Manuel Ruiz Jr. Janie had a long career in primary education, where she worked for many years providing administrative support to elementary school principals. It was here that she made lifelong friends. Everyone knew her by her smile and her laugh. The warmth and genuine energy that radiated from her meant so much to so many people. An avid Spurs fan, Janie fondly recalled attending games with her husband “back in the day” and more recently catching a game on tv with her family beside her. Janie loved hosting and playing bunco, as well as trying her luck on scratch-offs or a good slot machine! She especially enjoyed the time she got to spend with her best friend and sister, Mickie - which included trips to the casino whenever they could sneak away! Her main passion though was cooking, which she did tirelessly for her family right up to her last days. Whether making pies, cakes, Sunday breakfast or family dinners, she was always her happiest in the kitchen. She certainly shared her love through her cooking. In Janie’s own words, she “lived a beautiful life!” “We cannot see beyond, but this I know, I loved you so”, “more than you’ll ever know.” SERVICES Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Mission Park Medical Center, 8332 Fredericksburg Road. The Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 A. M. on Friday, June 16, 2023 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 350 Sutton Drive.
