Janie Garza born on January 24, 1936 went to be with the Lord on October 6, 2023 at the age of 87. She is preceded in death by her parents Vicente and Maria Erevia, her husband Hector Garza, brother Armando, sister Molly and daughters Eloisa Harrell and Estella Vargas. She is survived by her sisters Lupe Garcia, Lucia Cordova, Linda Giddings and brother Vicente Erevia, her daughters, Janie Garza, Paula Vasquez, and Abby Pesina, son Victor Erevia and Gilbert Marquez and son in law Carlos Pesina and daughter in law Lenora Erevia, grandchildren Bo Vasquez, Vincent Vasquez, Renee Vargas, Joshua Harrell, Donnie Harrell, Christian Erevia, Brian Merka and Ethan Erevia and many great-grandchildren. Janie was an extraordinarily courageous and strong woman who overcame many challenges in her long and remarkable life to become the matriarch of her family. She was a perfectionist with strong ideas about how things should be done and set high standards for all her family. However, nothing transcended her love for them. She was generous and a rock in times of struggle, the anchor of the family. She was a devoted wife to Hector, who she loved and cared for unflinchingly through the most difficult times and whose memory she cherished all her life. She was beloved by not only her immediate family but by many friends and extended family who over the years came to love her witty, insightful, and often humorous observations of life. She was a wonderful conversationist and could tell a story with drama and conviction, leaving you to wonder how much was true. She loved a good meal, even if she sometimes started with the dessert, her favorite. There wasn’t a pastry or candy she didn’t love even if it was just in degrees. She lived for her nick-nacks with which she filled her home along with dozens of photos of her large extended family. She was amazing at growing and nurturing the most beautiful plants which were her passion. Her family would smile when she found an article of clothing that was brightly colored or decorated with rhinestones and declared it “beautiful”. She was a dedicated servant of Jesus Christ and when she could no longer physically attend church, faithfully attended through the weekly televised versions. Janie was a force of nature whose presence will be missed by all who knew her. However, the knowledge that she is finally at peace with her beloved Hector and family members in the arms of God brings much comfort to her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
