Jesse Edward Applewhite lll, passed away at the age of 77 on January 24, 2021 at Seton Central Medical Hospital, in Austin, Texas. He was born on November 11, 1943 in Laredo, Texas the son of Jesse E. Applewhite II and Juanita Amparo Lozano. Jesse graduated from Martin High School, Class of 1961. Following graduation, he married Linda Jean Mackey on February 1, 1964, they had four children together. During this time, he served the in the US Air Force, originally stationed in Thailand, during the Vietnam War. While serving in the military he was also stationed in Alaska, Olathe, KS and in Tampa Bay, FL, ending his career in the military ranking as a US Air Force Sergeant. Finally residing in Austin, Texas in 1972 to continue his education at The University of Texas, he graduated in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He then furthered his education and graduated from Texas State University in 1994, with a master’s degree in education, majoring in counseling and guidance. He later specialized in substance abuse counseling, then following the much-needed advocacy of children in the Texas foster care system, his focus was to counsel fostered children in the Austin and Brownsville areas, his expertise in this field was much needed as he counseled bilingual and deaf children, which he was committed to for over 20 years. Jesse was a self-taught classical guitarist, he was a man of many accomplishments, but he always used those gifts as a comfort to others. Anyone who knew Jesse knew that he walked closely with God. His first true meaning in life was to serve God, and that he did. He actively co-pastured a church in Lockhart, TX - Casa De Oracion for 8 years. He was also committed to the Chaplin services for the Brownsville detention Centers. His devotion didn’t stop there, he directed and owned two homeless ministries in Brownsville and Austin. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his 2nd wife Jasmine Felipa Hernandez (who he married on April 21, 2007) His sister Marina C. Wickstrom, his brother Richard J. Applewhite. He is survived by his youngest brother Stephen Roddy Applewhite. Surviving in addition to his 1st wife Linda M. Applewhite are his children: Luinda J. Applewhite, Jesse E. Applewhite IV, Judy M. Gonzales, and Jennifer A. Spivey. Survivors also include his grandchildren: John D. Applewhite, Shelby P. Applewhite, Miles L. Applewhite, Nathan L. Applewhite, Kristin P. Spivey, James Drake Spivey, Brad C. Gonzales, Avery F. Gonzales. Jesse is also survived by a host of precious family members including greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Services of remembrance will be held at Alamo Funeral Chapels.
