Tributes

Born and raised in Graytown, Texas, our father was the son of the late Jesus Garza Tejeda and Genoveva Ybarra. He attended a local country school and spent his youth working alongside his parents and siblings. Together, they farmed peanuts, corn, and watermelons, and ranched everything from horses and cattle to hogs and turkeys. The lessons of hard work and resilience he learned on that farm became the foundation he applied to every obstacle he faced throughout his life. Driven by financial hardship, our father eventually moved to San Antonio, where he found work as a presser at a local cleaners. On November 16, 1952, he married our beloved late mother, Angelina Castaño. Shortly after, he began a long career at Kelly Air Force Base, where, alongside our mother, he worked tirelessly to raise our family. Baseball was our father's true passion. For over 60 years, he didn't just play the sport; he poured his heart into it as a coach and umpire. He inspired generations of players to love the game as much as he did, and many followed in his footsteps to become coaches themselves. The life lessons he shared on the diamond guided many young men long after they left the field. Our dad’s legacy is defined by everything he gave to his community and family, in ways both small and large. Some might say he gave too much, but he was being the man his parents raised him to be. For that selflessness, an entire community remains deeply grateful today. Family: Preceded in Death By: He is joined in eternal rest by our mother, Angelina Castaño Tejeda; our brother Victor C. Tejeda; his parents, Jesus G. Tejeda and Genoveva Y. Tejeda; and his siblings: Vidal Tejeda, Sr., Feliz Valdez, Maria Garcia, Victoria Martinez, Jesusa Reyes, Pedro Tejeda, Pablo Tejeda, and Luis Tejeda. Survivors: Our dad is survived by his sister, Delia Tejeda, and his four sons: Ruben C. Tejeda, Edmond C. Tejeda, Jesus C. Tejeda, and Michael C. Tejeda. His memory lives on through his grandchildren: ● Ruben J. Tejeda Jr. and Gabriel J. Tejeda (sons of Ruben C. Tejeda and the late Rebecca Mireles Tejeda). ● Victor E. Tejeda (son of Edmond C. Tejeda and Denise Barrera-Tejeda). ● Jacqueline A. Tejeda (daughter of Jesus C. Tejeda and Geovana Garcia Tejeda). ● Michael Tejeda Jr. and Lauren E. Tejeda (children of Michael C. Tejeda and Laura Espinoza Tejeda). May our family continue to serve others with the same grace and dedication our parents modeled for us.
