Tributes

James A. Pollard, III entered into heaven on May 4th, 2015 at the age of 73. He was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend to many people he met over the course of his life. In his early life he was a gifted athlete who excelled at football and baseball earning many honors and awards all the way through high school. After graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School he went on to play baseball for St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX as a catcher. Jim continued his love of sports throughout his life as a hunter, fisherman, golfer and softball player. In later life he was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching all sports, but mostly watching his grandson compete in football and baseball. After attending St. Mary's and entering the United States Air Force, he began his sheet metal career at A.J. Monier where he worked for many years before ultimately retiring from M&M Metals. Jim was a selfless person who mentored many through his work with the Masons and Shriners and as a coach and friend. Known for his ability to fix or build anything, he was always quick to help anyone in need no matter how small or large the project. Most that knew Jim recognized his physical strength and selflessness, fewer knew his tender side and his willingness to joke and tease. His love for others, while not always expressed verbally, was shown in his actions and enduring friendships that he maintained over the course of his life. In his free time he enjoyed being near the water at the lake, the beach or at his cabin at Camp Alzafar on the Guadalupe river. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bonnie Pollard; son, Gregory Pollard and wife Heather; grandson, Cade Pollard; sisters, Sheri Pollard, Judy Scruggs; brother, Tom Pollard and wife Connie; brother-in-law Garnet Steubing and wife Kenda; nieces and nephews, Julie Morris and husband, Michael and their children; Kole Steubing and wife Amy and children; Kelli Steen and husband Kevin and children; and dear friends. SERVICES Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 from 5-8 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, May 8, 2015 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North with interment to follow at Lockehill Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside ceremony at the Alzafar Shrine Temple
