On May 13 in the year of our Lord 2020, our beloved husband, father, brother, nephew, cousin and friend, Joe Diaz, Jr., was called home to take his rightful place among his family, friends and all of the faithfully departed to rejoice in the presence our Lord Jesus Christ the Almighty. He goes to be reunited with his grandparents Frank and Sulema Diaz and Felipe and Antonia Massiatte Mendoza, as well as his parents Joe Diaz, Sr. and Charlotte M. Diaz, not to mention all of his uncles, aunts, cousins and friends that were called before him. Joe was born on January 26, 1948 in San Antonio, Texas. While attending Sam Houston High School where he graduated in 1966, Joe worked for Mr. Ellison's Garage, Winn's and various other enterprises. After graduating high school, Joe worked at Joske's until joining the United States Coast Guard on October 11, 1966. Later he worked at Kelly Air Force Base from 1968 to 1972, followed by Chrome Plate for two years. Joe was hired on at Ma Bell in 1973 where he worked in outside crafts and was active in the union later becoming the first vice president of CWA Local 6143. After retiring from Ma Bell (by then known as AT&T) in 2003, he was active in the retiree's union, holding the office of president for multiple years. In September 1967, Joe met and later married the love of his life, Noemi Moreno Diaz who survives him in death. He is also survived by his three children: Yvette Diaz, Joe A. Diaz, III (Wendy Diaz), and Cristobal A. Diaz; three grandchildren: Charlotte Jane Diaz Guerra, Serena M. Diaz and Mikayla S. Diaz; aunt: Yolanda Gutierrez (John Gutierrez); brothers and sister: Thomas Diaz (Janie Diaz), Sylvia Diaz, and Albert Diaz (Susan Diaz); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and frankly too many friends, co-workers and associates to name. Services will be as follows: Visitation – 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. May 25, 2020 at Dellcrest Funeral Home located at 2023 S. W. W. White Rd., San Antonio, Texas. Funeral Mass – 10:00 a.m. May 26, 2020 at St. Benedict Catholic Church located at 4535 Lord Rd., San Antonio, Texas. Masks must be worn at all times inside the church, and seating is limited to only 100 individuals. Public Visitation at Dellcrest Funeral Home will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Due to social distancing guidelines, a mask must be worn in the funeral home at all times. We ask that you please exit the building after paying your respects. You are welcome to visit with friends and family at length outside the funeral home. The rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m., however due to the COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, we have chosen for it to be for immediate family only. The family respectfully thanks you for your cooperation and attendance.
