John Roy Baldwin, age 90, of Atascosa, Texas, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 19, 2024. John was born on June 8, 1934, in Kilgore, Texas. He is lovingly remembered by his brother Robert Glyn Baldwin, wife Peggy Baldwin, children: son Bryan Baldwin, daughter Brenda Baldwin, and son Bradley Baldwin with his wife Vivian Baldwin. He leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren: Beth Garces and her husband Joshua, Amanda Chavis, Kyle Baldwin and his fiancée Jenny, Taylor Baldwin, Megan Baldwin, Jeremy Better, and Jacob Better. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Mackenna Chavis, Avery Garces, Ashlyn Chavis and Lyla Garces: as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonnie Baldwin; his mother, Nellie Baldwin; his father, Benny Baldwin; and his granddaughter, Kara Baldwin. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather (affectionately known as "Papa"), John graduated from Burbank High School and soon after enlisted in the Navy, where he served as a Petty Officer 2nd Class. Following his military service, he dedicated 30 years to Kelly Air Force Base as an Air Traffic Controller and Airfield Manager. After a brief six-month retirement, during which he dutifully completed Bonnie's "honey-do" list, John returned to work as a car sales associate and later concluded his career as the Safety Director at Trans Met, retiring at the age of 70. He served as president of the Atascosa Rural Water corporation for many years. He was also a supporter of the Southwest FFA. John found great joy in spending time with his family and grandchildren, indulging in his love of fishing and hunting, and cherishing every moment with the love of his life, Bonnie. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. John was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all. Family will be receiving friends Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South 1700 S.E. Military Dr. S.A. TX 78214. On Monday, August 26, 2024, there will be a Chapel Service at 1:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park South.
