Tributes

John Richard Banik, 78, of Center Point, Texas, passed away on January 29th, 2017. Visitation will be held at Mission Park South on Thursday, February 2nd, 2017, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of life service on Friday, February 3rd, at 11:00 a.m. His former pastor and friend, Ron Langley, of Kingsland, Texas, will officiate. Grandsons William, Andrew, Philip, Jeremy, John Robert, Maclyn, Matthew, and Christopher will serve as pallbearers. John was born in Fargo, North Dakota, in July 1938. He married his high school sweetheart, Gloria, in 1955, and joined the U.S. Army at age 21, serving in Alaska, Germany, and two tours in Vietnam, and earning several medals, including the Bronze Star, before retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. After retirement, he worked at several jobs and served the Lord faithfully as a deacon, a house parent at Buckner Baptist, a choir member and choir leader, and went on several mission trips to England and Colorado. He became a licensed Baptist minister and was able to perform the marriage ceremony for his daughter and also his grandson. He loved music and loved his grandchildren and great children, and would sing “You Are My Sunshine” to them often. He is survived by his wife Gloria, sons Troy Banik and John S. Banik, daughters Susan Tuck, Deborah Hamer, and Laurie Beth Banik, grandchildren Matthew Tuck, Christopher Tuck, Sarah Valois, William Bass, Jennifer Bass, Chris Hamer, Andrew Bass, Rebecca Bass, Philip Banik, Jeremy Banik, John R. Banik, Maclyn Thompson, Savanna Banik, Kendall Tilton, Mackenzie Tilton, Corben Tilton, William Gourlas, and Shawn Gourlas, and great grandchildren Adelynn Tuck, Caleb Tuck, Aiden Tuck, Chanse Renaud, Kloe Banik, Hadleigh Banik, James Valois, Samuel Valois, Sophie Banik, and Olivia Banik. The family wishes to express their grateful appreciation to the staff and volunteers at the V.A. Hospital in Kerrville, Texas, for their excellent care. Visitation will begin on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park South.
