JOHN DAVID DORSEY Peacefully, quietly, on November 24th, our Father embraced his Lord and Savior. He was born in Coleman County, near Ballinger, Texas, on July 25th, 1920 to John Bowman and Katherine Bettis Dorsey and also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. He lost "the reason I was born", our Mother Lavurene in 2005 after 63 years of marriage. His last statement for us was "I want to talk to Mimi." In San Angelo, with crafts earned in the WPA, he became a master carpenter and contributed his talents to construct WWII airplanes. In 1953, he in San Antonio, he began his career as a homebuilder. A poet, a friend of this earth's soil, a fisherman, unafraid of hard physical labor, he was a man of great intelligence, clever problem solving. He over-cooked all barbecue, was not a great mechanic, never knew what shirt to wear with what pants, and difficult to make angry. He held great tenderness for women and laughter and warmth for men he respected. John is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Griffin Dorsey, San Antonio and his son Jerry B. Dorsey Sherri, Arp, Texas. Granddaughter Dilene Griffin and Ryan Miller, granddaughter Bethany Kris Richter all of San Antonio. Grandson Jeffrey B. Nicole Dorsey of Houston, grandson Justin B. Summer Dorsey of Bullard, Texas. Great grandchildren, Kylee Katherine Richter, Jaxson B. Dorsey and Wilkes G. Dorsey. Sister-in-law Glennis Joe Giamfortone of San Antonio and Brother-in-law Robert Hilda Krass of Sacramento, California as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He always greeted the comfort given to him by his nurse Sylvia and home care givers Delores and Liz. And last but not least his constant companion, our dog Annie. Pallbears: Tom Bailey, Jeff Collignon, Glenn Giamfortone, David Griffin, Sean Huff, and Frost Readel. Honorary Pallbears will be Clinton Scheel and Joe Giamfortone. The viewing will be on Wednesday, Nov. 28th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Mission Park North Funeral Home, 1401 Cherry Ridge. Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 29th at 1:00 PM at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 4242 Bluemel Road, in San Antonio, Texas 78240. We appreciate Dr. Mitchell Finnie, Dr. Sammy Vick and all members of Team 551 of Vitas Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Vitas Hospice or a charity of choice. He was an example of honor, truth and honesty. Thank you Papaw– you were a great Father and you have earned your wings. We let you go with love, Butchie and Jerry Po.
