John W.”Smitty” Smith born in Beeville, Texas on September 25, 1926; went to be with the Lord on September 2, 2019 at the age of 92. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Lillian F. Smith. Survivors include his loving daughters Debbie S. Simpson and Christie S. Kitchens, Grandchildren Christopher Draffkorn, Matthew Simpson, Gary Simpson, Cory Simpson, Michelle Dawdy, Christina Delgado, Carol Reichenbacher, Chris Yarborough and their Spouses and numerous Great Grandchildren along with other family members and friends. His second wife Margie E. Smith also precedes him in death. Smitty was a very talented man. He started working at an early age to help support his Mother and other Family members doing various odd jobs including driving a truck. He soon worked alongside one of his Uncles as a Carpenter. They worked at Lackland AFB in San Antonio to build the Barracks for the troops. Not long after that Smitty started driving 18 wheelers/ Big Rigs. He hauled film to Movie Theatres throughout Texas, hauled cars out of Detroit and so forth. When he started hauling Petroleum Products, he seemed to have found his calling. He worked for Union Transport for a few years then went on to Coastal Transport. There he found a group of folks that became “Part of the Family” as he did with them. He had many adventures including hauling Antique and Classic Cars with Kenneth Wagner for their boss Bob Atwell. They were quite the Pair. They traveled to Many Prestigious Car Shows including the Pebble Beach Show. Smitty enjoyed spending time with his family. They would go on “Sunday drives” and he would show them new places he had found along his drive while working. Sometimes it was a great little spot to get Honey, get a good Meal, a New Bakery or Texas Historical sites. It was never dull. Smitty enjoyed Dancing, Fishing, Hunting, Gardening and a variety of other activities. He was also an Ace at Grilling and making Margaritas. More than all of that he was a Great Husband and a Wonderful Daddy! Visitation will begin on Friday, September 13, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park South.
