Jose Rangel Garcia passed away on February 1st, 2026, in San Antonio, TX. He was born on May 16, 1943, in San Antonio, TX to Josefina Rangel Garcia and Jesus Garcia. He is preceded in death by his parents Josefina and Jesus Garcia, two infant brothers, brother Jesse Garcia, brother Pete Garcia, brother Santiago Garcia, two sisters Josephine Guzman, Janie Reyes and the love of his life, Alicia Garcia. He grew up on the South side of San Antonio and graduated from Burbank High School. He was very proud to be a Bulldog. At 18, he joined the Army, then separated and joined the United States Air Force Reserves. He served in the 75th Aerial Port Squadron, which later became the 433rd Military Air Wing. In the Air Force Reserves, he was able to see the world. He traveled to France, Germany, Hawaii, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Spain, and Turkey. He retired in 2003 as a Master Sergeant after 32 years of Service. He also worked full time at Kelly Air Force Base and retired with 32 years in Civil Service. At Kelly Air Force Base, he met the love of his life, Alicia Garcia. They married on October 3, 1970. They had two daughters, Michelle Lynn and Raquel Lea. In 2000, they built their dream home. In 2003, Jose lost his beloved Alicia, after 32 years of marriage. Jose loved to dance and enjoyed listening to live music. He even competed in several ballroom competitions. When he danced, others watched and complimented him. Jose was the best girl dad. He showed his daughters how to ride bikes, taught them how to drive and loved to take them shopping. He rode the scary roller coasters and played carnival games, winning the largest stuffed animals for his daughters. He was excellent at the ring toss game. He did anything for his girls. He loved watching sports. His favorite football team was the 49ers. He loved the Spurs and had the opportunity to attend the NBA Finals championship games in 2003 and 2014. Jose had many friends, everywhere he went he ran into a friend or someone he knew. He was a reserved man, intelligent and funny. He was excellent in math and could do any equation in his head. He loved telling jokes and had many funny sayings. He was a fantastic Grandpa. He adored his grandson, AJ, and granddaughter, Sophia. He was very proud of them. He also loved his furry companions, Denver and Daisy. He was able to see AJ play football, lacrosse and graduate from Central Catholic High School. He saw Sophia play volleyball, perform on the dance team, graduate from St. Matthew Catholic School and enter Incarnate Word High School. Jose will be remembered as a hard working, intelligent, funny man who loved his family. He was proud of his service in the Air Force and loved his country. He loved life and had a strong faith in God and Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle. Jose is survived by his two daughters, Michelle Lynn Gamez, son-in- law Jose Gamez, Raquel Lea Garcia and son-in-law Friedhelm Koenigs. Two grandchildren, AJ Gamez and Sophia Gamez. Two brothers Raymond Garcia, Alfonso Garcia and sisters-in-laws, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Services: We will add in the service information.
