Josie Agnes Vajdos passed away peacefully on January 5, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas. Josie was a very sweet mother who devoted her life to her children and family. Born on January 15, 1926 in Adkins, Texas to Joseph F. Skalski, and Hedwig Hudek Skalski. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Harry Padalecki Sr., Benjamin F. Vajdos; siblings, Agnes DeWinne, Annie Padalecki, Bessie Henze, Catherine Dylla, Joan Shadrock, Rosie Skalski; infant siblings Michal Skalski (1923), Marja (1934), Lucy (1939), and Joseph S. (1940). She is survived by her children, Harry Padalecki Jr. (Sandy) and Elizabeth Padalecki Howard (Bill); sisters, Julia Zaiontz, Mary Holub, Carolyn Fowler (Dean); brother, Joseph P. Skalski; step children, Margaret Vajdos, Barbara Nasis (Rick), Allen Vajdos, Felix Vajdos (Janis); grandchildren, Michelle Vayer (Julie), Leander Brandt IV (April), Crista Covert, Ryan Padalecki (Angela), Lora Andrews (John); great grandchildren Lee J. Brandt V, Garrett Brandt, Kara Brandt, Anna Brandt, Jenna Brandt, Paisley Andrews, Jolene Andrews, Aspen Padalecki, Robert Padalecki, and Samuel Padalecki. Josie was raised in the Catholic faith and attended the Annunciation BVM Church in St. Hedwig, TX in her early years. During her years in San Antonio she was a member of several Catholic parishes including St. Gerard’s, St. Benedict’s, St. Pius XII, and St. Anthony de Padua. She believed and trusted Jesus as her Lord and savior. She Was Part Of The Greatest Generation. During World War II, Josie worked at the Ft. Sam Commissary. Alongside her sister Annie she worked riveting bomb shells for the war effort at Friedrich Refrigeration. Josie also worked at the State Hospital laundry with her sister Annie. With only an eighth grade education she worked her way up as the Supervisor of Housekeeping at the Metropolitan Hospital in San Antonio. She loved to play Bingo, dance polkas, and waltzes and spoke Polish as her second language. One of her favorite things to do was to take trips to Rockport to go fishing. Josie was a person that loved her family and friends dearly and would always help all of them in any way that she could. She was a very strong woman who enjoyed gardening roses, and other flowers. Even into her 90’s, she could still be seen mowing and trimming her grass. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 4 PM to 8 PM at Dellcrest Funeral Home. A eulogy will begin at 6 PM followed by a Rosary at 6:30 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at Annunciation BVM Catholic Church in St. Hedwig Texas with burial afterwards at the Church cemetery.
