Joyce Rebecca Hamilton was born on June 29th 1940 in St. Margaret's Village, Claxton Bay, Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies. She died December 21st 2009 at The Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Joyce was born to Cornelius and Luna Charles who are deceased. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne, three sisters, Ms. Veronica Doldron, Mrs. Pearl Dunbar, and Ms. Merle Charles; her brother-in-law Lawrence Dunbar; loving aunt to nieces and nephews which include Carla, Kevin, Lorraine, Derek, Tracye and Stacye and numerous grand nieces, nephews and one great-grand niece. Notables include cousins Dr. Lawrence Weekes, Frederica Weekes and numerous others; also Mr. and Mrs. St. Clair Ferdinand who is a long time family friend and Godmother to her daughter Suzanne. Joyce received her early education at Pointe-A Pierre Government school in Trinidad, then continued her education in business where she was employed with Texaco Company at the Hollerith Department. With the strong desire to exceed in life, she decided to pursue an education in Nursing. She was accepted at St. Crispin's Hospital in Northampton, England where she graduated with honors in Psychiatric Nursing. Joyce met and married her lifetime sweetheart Abel Hamilton in 1965 in Bedford, England while she was pursuing her nursing career. Abel and Joyce decided to return to the United States where they started a family and became loving parents to Suzanne Hamilton. Her drive to encourage and motivate others was demonstrated by example when she decided to return to school to obtain a higher education. She matriculated in the Masters Program at the University of Texas and completed her Masters Degree in General Nursing. She practiced nursing in the State of Texas for many years, while functioning as a dedicated wife and mother. She excelled in her profession to a management level position in the nursing field. Joyce retired from Nursing at the age 62. She dedicated her time in studying politics, and engaged in charitable work via the Internet. She was passionate about the rights of others and showed particular interest in St. Jude's Children's Hospital. She donated thousands of dollars to further the research of cancer in young children. She was very patriotic and you will see artifacts around her home that reflect her love for this country. Joyce enjoyed a robust discussion about life and had a great sense of West Indian humor. She was a self-starter and lived life her own way. Her family, friends and everyone who knew her intimately will miss her very much. She left the world a better place for having been here.
