Juan Carlos “Cloud” V. Martínez, Jr. November 9, 1993 to May 5, 2016 On the evening of May 4th, 2016, Juan Carlos passed away in his San Antonio apartment. He was 22 years old and greatly loved by all the people who knew him. Juan Carlos was described by those that knew him as kind, intelligent, and humble. He is a great son who loved his mother immensely, a loving loyal brother to his sisters, and a dependable friend who always helped others in need without asking for anything in return. Juan Carlos was born in San Antonio Texas, where he lived most of his life alongside his mother and two sisters. In school Juan Carlos excelled and proved to be an intellectual beyond his years with exceptionally high grades. He often spoke of philanthropic dreams and inventions he would devise to help improve our world. Juan was studying to become a civil engineer and planned on travelling to undeveloped countries where he could help build roads and bridges that connected communities. Undoubtedly a young visionary with magnificent ideas. Juan attended Katherine Stinson middle school where he played three years of football and participated in cross country & relay track events. He was an extraordinary athlete who always won first or second place in his races. Juan also participated in Boy Scouts of America and the Hispanic Young Leaders Conference. During his time at Louise Brandis High School Juan was elected class president, participated on the debate team, and studied Theater at Texas A&M Corpus Christi among other undertakings. These endeavors lead Juan to visit the White House and West Point, who then invited and accepted Juan to join the University. He met San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro who personally recommended him for West Point based on Juan’s high academic achievements. He also met Governor Rick Perry in Austin, played the acoustic guitar and drums, made music, rapped, wrote poetry, loved animals and nature, a master meditator, philosopher, and always seen with a book in his hand. Juan Carlos is now an Angel in heaven protecting us from beyond the clouds and always accompanying us along our journey. God is great and has welcomed Juan into paradise for Juan is pure Love. He is survived by his mother, Angelica Maria, his sisters Elizabeth and Carla, and a large extended family. We cherish our memories of you Juan Carlos and know that you are now with family that preceded you in heaven, and live with the confidence that one day we will all be together again for eternity. “To those who say to you, never look down.
