Juanita Castaneda Alarcon went to be with the Lord in heaven peacefully on January 11, 2023, at the age of 90. She was born on June 16, 1932, in Eagle Pass, Texas, to Jesus Reyes Castaneda and Ester Hernandez Castaneda. In 1949, she married the love of her life, Rafael Alarcon. Juanita and Rafael were married for 67 years. Together they raised ten children. Juanita was a stay-at-home mom devoted to raising and nurturing her children. She lovingly helped care for many of her grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mom, and grandma. She was a beautiful person, filled with love, spirit, and vibrance. She loved her family beyond words. Everyone that met her loved her. Her infectious personality captured any room. She enjoyed spending time with her family, having good conversations, and watching her family grow. Her favorite hobbies included caring for her plants on her patio and sewing baby blankets by hand for her grandchildren and some of her great-grandchildren. She was a phenomenal cook and made the best menudo, caldo, and atole. She would make her grandchildren mini tortillas and her famous “tolito”, Mexican pudding, which they loved. She enjoyed watching the Spurs on TV, loved to play Loteria, and go gambling. She will be deeply missed by many. Mrs. Alarcon was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rafael Alarcon. She is survived by her daughters, Maria Yolanda Leija (Caesar), Mary Jessie Saldana (Pete), Mary Ann Martinez (Johnny), and Elizabeth Gallegos; sons, Ralph Alarcon, Jr. (Maria), Jesse Alarcon, Raymond Alarcon (Sandra), Tony Alarcon, Joe Alarcon (Debbie Flores), John Alarcon; sister, Mary Esther Euresti; 31 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren. We want to extend our special thanks to the providers for the excellent care they provided for our mom, Socorro Hernandez, Coco Martinez, and Nancy Escamilla Martinez. SERVICES Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 6:00pm-9:00pm, with a Rosary at 7:00pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. There will be a procession departing the funeral home chapel on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 11:30am, with a 12:00pm Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
