Juanita Treviño Charo, 82, of San Antonio, Texas, entered eternal rest on July 25, 2026, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 30, 1943, Juanita was the beloved daughter of Ramonsita and Domingo Treviño. She was born in Piedras Negras, Mexico, and came to the United States as a young child, where she began the journey that would shape the beautiful life she shared with her family. She proudly became a United States citizen, a meaningful milestone in her life. She especially enjoyed traveling while supporting her husband during his military service. Together, they lived in several places, including time overseas in Europe, where they made memories in France and Germany. One of Juanita’s first great adventures was bravely boarding an airplane for the first time in her life while expecting their first child, traveling to France to join her husband. In their early years they settled in Marengo, Illinois. Then they eventually made their way to San Antonio, where they bought the house that became the center of family life for the next 52 years. That home was where holiday tables were crowded, laughter was shared, and small moments became treasured memories. Juanita was the heart of that home—cooking with love, working as a hairstylist, building a successful business, and making sure everyone was cared for. Her enchiladas, rice and beans, and especially her Thanksgiving stuffing were family favorites. Throughout the years, her daughters tried to recreate her signature recipes but always found something missing, because her food carried the memory of her hands, her care, and her love. A woman of grace and faith, Juanita was elegant and classy, while also carrying a fun-loving spirit. Family gatherings were never complete without her dancing to “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” often a half-step behind, but always with confidence and her beautiful smile. She passed on everyday skills and quiet life lessons, patiently sewing many outfits, prom dresses, and Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren, each stitch a reflection of her care and love. In every worry or trial, she offered the same comforting words: “I’ll pray for you,” and she did, faithfully. Juanita held close to her heart the mementos of family life—her teapots, china, and keepsakes from family weddings and birthdays. She displayed and protected these treasures throughout her home with quiet pride, and if something made it into the china cabinet, you knew it was extra special. She found joy in simple outings with her grandchildren, especially trips to the dollar store, where she would take them after a long day of work at her beauty salon. Those small moments became cherished memories they will carry forever. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Victor A. Charo, whom she married on November 6, 1965. She often shared the beautiful story that she had seen him in a dream before they ever met, a special blessing she carried with her throughout their life together. She is also survived by her brother, Manuel Treviño; her five children, Veronica Ybarra and husband Ray; Virginia Campos and husband Leonard; Antonio Charo and wife Bety; Victoria Treviño and husband Tony; Victor Charo and wife Rochelle; 13 cherished grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her six sisters, Teresa Rodriguez, Josefa Contreras, Hortencia Vara, Maria Ybarra, Oralia Treviño, and Berta Rosa Treviño; and her four brothers, Juan Jose Treviño, Oració Treviño, Atanacio Treviño, and Jesus Treviño. Our mom was our rock, our teacher, and our angel on earth. We find comfort in knowing she is now at peace, reunited with the loved ones who went before her. The love she shared, the lessons she taught, and the memories she created will remain in our hearts forever and live on through the family she loved the most. A Rosary will be held on August 4th at 6:30 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, located at 1700 SE Military Drive. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on August 5th at 12:30 p.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, located at 4535 Lord Road. Following the Mass, burial services will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In honor of Juanita and her favorite color, blue, we kindly invite family and friends to wear something blue as we celebrate her life and the beautiful memories she leaves behind.
