Juanita Hernandez left this earthly realm on October 22, 2024, at the age of 80 years after a valiant fight with Dementia at her home in San Antonio, Texas. In sorrow and sadness, we remember that she endured the journey and fought the battle, but we rejoice because she gained the victory. Juanita was the proud mother of 8 children. When Juanita’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. It was considered customary for women to stay home and care for their children. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. Juanita was a great mother, grandmother, and wife. She was always the first to offer help to others. She always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, fed, happy, and had a place to lie their head. Her work didn’t stop after her children were grown, she continued caring for and raising her grandchildren. Juanita was the type of woman who was easy to talk to and get great advice from. While raising her children she was strict and firm, but still was the “Cool Mom” to be around and who loved dancing and playing bingo. Throughout her life she maintained a simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many. She was more than happy to have her children and grandchildren be the central figures in her life. Anyone who knew her, knew that her family was the star in her eyes. Juanita, was known for her love of dancing. Growing up her children always remember those Saturday “cleaning day” mornings with her Tejano music, gliding across the floor dancing as she cleaned. Juanita looked forward to the holiday season of Thanksgiving and Christmas where all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren gathered together to celebrate and play bingo and Toma Todo. Juanita loved collecting Angels. She had a huge assortment of beautiful Angels, small and large, short and tall. When she became sick, she moved in with family and brought many of her Angels with her and placed them all around her room. She said, “my Angels keep me safe; they protect me.” We believe, that Juanita is now our Guardian Angel in heaven watching over all of us. Juanita will be remembered as a generous, selfless, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend who was determined even when times were tough. Even now many hearts are being changed because they remember her constant nurturing love and dedication to her faith. She inspired, she taught, and was a wonderful role model right to the end. Juanita joins her husband, Felix G. Hernandez, her parents, Juan & Francisca Escobedo, sisters, Bertha Ramirez, Dolores Medina, Tomasa Ponce De Leon, and Lydia Medellin in heaven. She is survived by her children, Jesse Michael Diaz, Mark Anthony Diaz, Janice Marie Sanchez, Mary Ann Acosta, Ernesto Diaz, Jeffrey Henry Diaz, John Paul Diaz, Erica Jean Diaz, Marcus Antonio Sanchez, grandson (raised from birth), brothers, Juan Escobedo, Jr. and Ricardo Escobedo, 26 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Services will be at Palm Heights Funeral Home. Viewing will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 12:00 pm and Celebration of Life Ceremony will begin at 1:00 pm. services will conclude at 4: 00 pm.
