Juanita Garza Torres of San Antonio, Texas passed away peacefully in her home on May 28, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Juanita grew up in San Antonio, Texas where she met her husband of forty years, Jesse L. Torres. While raising her growing family of five, Juanita ran the family hardware store. Breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner was served in the back storeroom while sales continued up front. Always the shrewd businesswoman, Juanita would sew clothes for the entire family in order to save up for investing in property. This same care and creativity could be found amongst the blooming flowers of Juanita’s garden. Her beautiful garden would often serve as the backdrop for countless family gatherings. In what little spare time she had, Juanita was always willing to lend a helping hand. She often canvassed the neighborhood collecting donations for the March of Dimes or donated her time to the church. Juanita was a woman of many talents. She could tape and float sheetrock, paint the house inside and out, lay brick and mortar for flower beds, sew curtains for all the windows, and crochet roses to go on all her pillows. After a hard day’s work, Juanita always made time to prepare dinner from scratch and roll out fresh, homemade tortillas. She worked tirelessly to make her home a place where everyone felt like family. Juanita’s love for all her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and godchildren was boundless. She was a mother figure to all who confided in her and we miss her immensely. Juanita is preceded in death by her beloved mother and father, Juan and Juanita Garza, the father of her children, Jesse L. Torres, her sisters, Estela Sanchez and Josefina Casals, her siblings who passed away as children, Eduardo, Juan, and Ester Garza, as well as her dear great-granddaughter, Ashley Lyn Jimenez. Juanita is survived by her youngest sister Linda Torres, step-daughter Delia Torres Jimenez and fiancé José Almaguer, children Sylvia Torres-Guerrero and spouse José, Maria Torres, Mario Torres and spouse Terri, Jesse Torres, Jr. and spouse Mary, and Diana Torres. Grandchildren are Rudy Villareal, Linda Villareal, Alba Guerrero, Diana Guerrero, Gabriela Guerrero, Vicente Guerrero, Maricela Torres, Luis Herrera, Marissa Torres, Joshua Torres, Priscilla Torres-Ledger, Agustine Torres, Josephine Torres, Vanessa Torres-Khan, and Jesse Torres III. Great-grandchildren are LeeAnna Ledger, KayLee Ledger, Bryson Hill, Kendall Jones, Kameron Jones, Briana Jimenez, Lauren Jimenez, Matthew Jimenez, Mercedes Jimenez, Rudy Jimenez III, Ariana Jimenez, and Nevaeh Jimenez, Lorenzo Torres, James Torres, 10 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way, and so many more beloved family members and friends. Viewing will commence at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 14, 2021, at Mission Park South Funeral Chapel, located at 1700 S.E. Military Drive. At 6:30 p.m. we will pray the rosary for Juanita and visitation will continue through 8 p.m. On Tuesday, June 15, 2021, Mission Park South Chapel will open at 8 a.m. for the final viewing of Juanita Torres. At 12:15 p.m. we will depart for San Fernando Cathedral, located at 115 Main Plaza, for a funeral mass that will take place at 1 p.m. Following mass we will meet at Mission Park South for the graveside service.
