June Carlene Johnson, 91 of San Antonio, Texas passed away December 18, 2024, she was born on June 10, 1933 in Mena, Arkansas. She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Johnson Sr., daughter Linda Gale Spurlock, and granddaughter Whitney Claiborne. She is survived by her children Kathy Johnson, Kenneth Johnson Jr. and wife Karen, and Melissa Shannon and husband Kirk, as well as her sister Frankie Jo Roeser and husband Mike, grandchildren Michael Lee Spurlock, Brett Williams, Jake Heflin and wife Lauren, Jaclyn Cashion, Shaunn Claiborne, bonus granddaughters Sherry Wolf and husband Robert, Wendy Gallardo and husband David, and Charlie Keller, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the loving teams at Guadalupe Regional Hospice Services and Floresville Residence & Rehabilitation Center. June was a devoted mother, who worked at Southside ISD where she retired from. She was retired for three long months, then with the encouragement of the already retired and completely settled into the role, Kenneth Sr., who was not seeking additions to his honey-do list, promptly went on to her next career at Walmart #1313, where she spent another 20 years and so reveled in taking care of the plants and her adopted kids there. While raising her children she volunteered many hours to the Southside 4-H Club, attended many a sporting event, and stock shows throughout Texas. Much to the distress, but ultimate comfort, of her children she was always first to volunteer for the obligatory school field trip to the Buttekrust Bakery and SA Zoo. She was an excellent cook and an expert seamstress who could sew anything she set her mind to, most with a self-made pattern, if any. She was fiercely independent and an extremely private person, but also one who had to know all the happenings of those in her life. Long before there was a term or a nickname for everything, she was the ultimate Mama Bear and helicopter parent, but always in the most positive sense of each term of endearment. The family will receive guests from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, January 3, 2025, at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 10:30am at Oak Island Methodist Church, 2970 DeVilbiss Lane, San Antonio, and she will be laid to rest at Oak Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Island Cemetery Association, 2970 DeVilbiss Lane, San Antonio, Texas 78264-3515.
