Tributes

Katherine Hope was born the eldest of four children to Ford and Lee Ellen Ivey on November 28, 1914, in Kerens, Texas. After going through the Kerens school system, Katherine went to the College of Mary Harden Baylor, where she graduated with a degree in music education. She found the love of her life while teaching school and soon was married to James E. Heiser, who was also a teacher and coach, on August 21, 1939. They had one child, Dinah Kay, and lived for 54 years in San Antonio, Texas, where they both taught school until retirement. Kay was active in San Antonio Retired Teachers Assn, San Antonio Coaches Wives, Entre Nous Club and Alpha Delta Kappa. Kay received the Yellow Rose of Texas Education Award in 1997. James passed away on November 9, 1999. Katherine moved to Plano in 2000, to be near her daughter and enjoyed the fellowship and friends she quickly made at her new home, Cottonwood Estates. Kay loved to play the piano and participated in the monthly Cottonwood Review until her death. Dementia had begun to take its toll on her memory, but her ability to sit down and play the piano never left her. Katherine was a life long Baptist but joined Custer Road United Methodist Church, again to be near her daughter. There she met a new group of friends in the Covenant Sunday School Class. They all made her feel welcome and she cherished the time she had with them. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ford Ivey and sister Aline Bell. She is survived by her younger brother Jim Bob Ivey and his wife Betty of Kerens, TX, her daughter and son-in-law Dinah Kay and Bob Carter of Plano, TX, two grandchildren Jim and wife Angela Carter also of Plano, Kim Sterns and husband Wade of Marietta, GA, and two great grand children Reese Katherine and Ryne Carter Sterns also of Marietta, GA. SERVICES There will be a viewing, with the family in attendance, on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 PM and services will be held Thursday, Nov. 17 at 9:00 AM in the Mission Park North Chapel, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive, San Antonio, with internment immediately following at Mission Burial Park North. There will be a memorial service at Custer Road United Methodist, 6601 Custer Road, Plano, TX 75023 on Friday, November 18, at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the James & Kay Heiser Scholarship Fund, Attn: Ronan McAshan, St. Marys University, One Camino Santa Maria, San Antonio, TX 78228-8503 or to the AV Ministry at Custer Road UMC, 6601 Custer Road, Plano, TX 75023.
