Kay Loraine Barnes Clayton went to sleep in Jesus on Saturday, October 24, 2009 after her courageous 3 year battle with brain cancer. Kay was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 5, 1941 – the first born and daughter of beloved parents, Bonnie and John Barnes who have preceded her in death. Kay married her high school sweetheart, William "Bill" Travis Clayton, Jr. on January 15, 1960 and lived with him happily in their retirement home in Leakey, Texas. She is survived by Bill, her two sons, daughter-in-law and five grandchildren. Bill, her oldest son, Travis, his two sons Dallas and William and daughter, Kellie; her youngest son, Brett, his wife Julie and daughter, Rebecca were the absolute loves of Kay's life. She is also survived by a loving brother, Leslie Barnes and two adoring sisters, Johnnie Ruth Garrett and Donna Waller, Auntie Betty Crews, Aunt Jean Creech and precious nieces, nephews and cousins. Kay lived her life in a manner that demonstrated unconditional love. She had a true servant's heart with an abundance of care and compassion for all whom she knew and met. She was blessed with many gifts – with one being her sweet, gentle spirit and ability to delight in God's most simple blessings and life's events – always recognizing all were blessings from God. Kay shared her love for the Lord in her role of many years as a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed the happiness of others, serving others, gardening, cooking, reading and most of all time spent with family and friends. Kay was loved and supported through her illness by so many. Julie, her daughter-in-love, as Kay referred to her, was the wind beneath her wings during her illness. She was always there for Kay with appointments and care. While words seem inadequate, thank you from the bottom of our hearts Julie Angel, from Bill, Brett, your grateful husband; Travis and all who loved Kay. Special thanks to long time friends Sue, Kathleen, Sandy and Joyce for their support and to Carla during her extra care during Kay's last days. A visitation will begin from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A 12:00 pm Chapel Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North officiated by Brother Chris Block. Interment to follow in Marcelina Cemetery in Floresville, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Big Springs Ranch for Children, 830-232-7110 or to Uvalde Hospice , 830-278-6691, who sent angels Angelica, Cindy, Lupe & Marilyn to care for Kay.
