Surrounded by loved ones, Larry Joe Cheever passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at the age of 72. He was born February 16, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas, to True and Betty Cheever. Larry served honorably in both the U.S. Army Reserve and U.S. Air Force Reserve. He attended Texas State University, where he completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He began work at Kelly Air Force Base in 1966, retiring from there in 2001, and was a member of the Federal Managers Association, Helotes AF and AM Lodge No. 1429, the San Antonio Credit Union Board of Directors and the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. Larry resided in Tower Lake Estates for more than 45 years and called Wilson County home. After his retirement, he enjoyed being a part of his community and served as the Executive Director of the Floresville Economic Development Corporation. He was passionate about business, real estate, and community, and brought many of those partnerships to Wilson County. He was a classic car enthusiast and enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the Spurs and Cowboys. His final years were spent with those that he loved, making memories and cherishing every moment. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dr. Leonard Cheever; and in-laws Domingo Z. and Margaret M. Viera; and numerous beloved family members. Larry is survived by his wife of 28 years, Helen Herrera Cheever; daughters Marlana (Richard) Janysek, Jennifer Cheever, and Lauren Cheever; sons Larry (Adriana) Cheever Jr. and Daniel Cheever; grandchildren Karson Moeller, Nathaniel Cheever, Madeline Cheever, and Brielan Janysek; sisters-in-law Miriam Cheever, Deborah Herrera, Elena Herrera, Lydia Garcia and Christine Castillo; brothers-in-law, Louis Herrera Jr, Vincent Herrera, Rodrigo Garcia, and Frank Castillo; and 7 nephews and 9 nieces. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Larry’s brother-in-law and caregiver, Louis Herrera Jr., for his loving care and support during his years battling Parkinson’s Disease. Visitation was held on Monday, February 10, at 4 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Mission Park Funeral Chapels South in San Antonio. A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. in St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in San Antonio. Interment followed in the San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery #2 in San Antonio.
