LEONARD CONNER January 22, 1924 – October 4, 2014 In loving memory of our special dad, Leonard E. Conner, who went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 4, 2014. What a blessing he was to so many people with his leadership, courage, strength and gentleness and was such a joy to be around. He was born January 22, 1924 in Brownwood, Texas to John Sylvester and Olive Amber Conner. He grew up in Hamilton, Texas and graduated High School in Richland Springs in 1941 where he met his sweetheart Lola Gamblin, whom he married on Jan 17, 1943 prior to joining the Navy in February 1943 to serve his country for 18 months in Australia and the South Pacific during World War II. He was sent stateside for discharge in December 1945. Leonard was a Charter Member of Castle Hills First Baptist Church, when the Church was just forming in 1955, serving as both a deacon and chairman of deacons for many years. Leonard taught an adult men's Bible study, worked in the nursing home ministries and preached at the Men's Rescue Mission in San Antonio. He also taught at St. Phillips College for many years and started the first diesel automotive program there. Leonard retired at the age of 62, and got even busier in life, helping and encouraging people in their faith of the Lord Jesus. His loving wife went home to the Lord in 2006. Perry, his son followed in 2007. He is survived by his eldest son Dennis Conner and wife Mary and their children Clinton, Cynthia and Tiffany; daughter-in-law Marilynn Conner; his daughter Julie Aldrich and husband Jim; his sister Jean Vance and numerous other family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in Leonard's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or any of your favorite ministries or charities. We especially want to thank the care that Leonard received at Villa de San Antonio Assisted Living during the past six years that he was a resident. He enjoyed all the friends and staff members and we know that everyone will miss hearing his joyous songs. A visitation will be held Monday, October 13, 2014 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A 12:00pm Memorial Service will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Castle Hills First Baptist Church.
