Leonard Earl Patrick, born in Houston, Tx on Nov 10, 1952, went home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2022 with his family by his side. He was the son of John Thomas Patrick and Mary Alfred Patrick. He was the brother of infant Tommy, Carolyn, Ruthie, and Vernon “Peewee”. At 19 years old, Dad proudly entered the United States Air Force to serve his country. Dad loved our great nation; he was a dedicated Airman and a true patriot. Dad’s military career culminated in retirement after 20 years of service. During his time in the service, Dad completed two overseas tours in Osan, Korea and Okinawa, Japan. Notably, he held the esteemed positions of Contracting Supervisor and Military Training Instructor. Throughout his military career Dad earned numerous coveted awards to include service medals, citations and honors. Many of which we learned of only after his passing. This speaks to the humble, modest man that Dad was. He was never one to boast or draw attention to himself…his life was one of humility. During his retirement years, Dad enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He loved watching all-types of movies, but old John Wayne classics were his favorite. He shared his love for movies with his kids and grandkids. Dad was an electronics enthusiast, spending hours learning about and building computers. He knew more about hardware and software than people half his age. He quickly became the designated computer expert in the family. More than a self-proclaimed computer nerd, Dad possessed many old-school talents. He often knew tricks of the trade that had been lost to history…his skills earned him the monikers of “Swiss-Army dad” and “MacGyver”. He will always be remembered for giving generously and freely helping others without ever taking credit for his remarkable contributions. Dad also earned the right to be called “Papa”. Papa’s unconditional love and support was felt by all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Words such as incredible, wonderful, awe-inspiring, will never do justice to describe his one of a kind personality. If I were to choose one word to encapsulate who Papa was…it would be selfless. He gave generously and never asked for anything in return. He had a gift for conversation and a knack for making friends wherever he went. By the time he finished conversing with someone, they would often feel as if they had known him their whole life. He was quick witted and funny, easily capturing the hearts and minds of everyone he encountered. He had a beautiful smile and an unmistakable laugh…his presence always lit up the room. Papa was so much fun and loved spending time with his family; as well as the many friends he had made over the years. Dad was devoted, a completely dedicated husband and father. He was a father who always led by example. Dad carefully and intentionally spent his time teaching his children the value of love, respect, character, integrity and selflessness. He did not just teach us these attributes; Dad spent his entire life showing us how to live them. Dad brought this family together. His hard work, sacrifice, commitment, and compassion drew us close to one another and kept us together. Dad’s sacrifices were countless; often working multiple jobs to provide for all of our wants and needs. His days were long and his rest was short. His generosity was great and his needs were few. Through it all, he never complained and never had any regrets. We are all better people because we had him as a role-model. Dad was strong in his Christian faith. His love for the Lord as his savior was genuine and never ceasing. Together with Mom, Dad taught his children about Christ and raised us in the word of God. Through their guidance and example, we also grew to know and love the Lord. Of the many gifts that Dad has given us over the years, our love for the Lord was his greatest gift of all. Dad was a good shepherd to his family. We are and forever will be blessed to have had him for a Dad and a Papa. Leonard is preceded in death by his wife Dena Diane Patrick; his father John Thomas, and mother Mary Alfred; sister Carolyn; brothers Infant Tommy Patrick and Vernon “PeeWee” Patrick; and nephew John Gray. Leonard is survived by his daughter Gina Diane Suire - grandchildren Derrick Joseph, Aaron Charles, Brittnie Diane and Jonnis Ray Suire - great grandchildren Oliver Riddick Suire and Alice Raven Suire, son and daughter of Derrick; Demi J Grace Suire daughter of Aaron; and Chloe Ann Morris and Bailey Diane Morris, daughters of Brittnie. His daughter Melissa Renea Glasbrenner and husband Gary -grandchildren Justin Michael Scannell & Allison Ray Selix, Shane Gregory, Sarah Jean and Hayla Faith Glasbrenner - great grandchildren Addison Gray Selix, daughter of Allison; Asher Grey Glasbrenner, son of Shane; and Freya Elizabeth Gade and Finn Alexander Gade, daughter and son of Sarah. His son Michael Shawn Patrick and wife Jayme - grandchildren Audrey Grace & Aidan Otis Patrick. His son Derrick Joe "DJ" and wife Amanda - grandchildren Jalen Ray, Katelynn Grace & Rylan Kade Patrick. And daughter Kristin Marrilee Huitron and husband Sonny - grandchildren Alexis Anais, Caprice Cay, Ariana Arey, Emily Marie & Luke Ryan Huitron. Leonard will be laid to rest with his wife Dena. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park South.
