Mr. Lewis F. Thorla, Jr. passed away at his home September 3, 2014 at the age of 82. He suffered a massive heart atttack and was gone in minutes-just as he would have wanted. He had said he didn't wish to be a "lab rat". Lewis was a retired Shreveport LA firefighter-27 years and 6 months and 11 days. He loved his job, and made many lifelong friends. He was a loving husband, father, caring grandfather and loyal friend. He was also a veteran of the Korean War. He was prededed in death by his parents Lewis Sr. and Ollie Mae, his parents-in-law, sister Evelyn and his beloved son Lewis III and by his son Mark mother Pat Thorla and granddaughter Catherine Elizabeth Harrison. Many aunts and uncles, cousins, and numerous firefighter friends. Lewis was a Christian and believed he would see them all in heaven. He's survived by his wife of 35 years Carole, son Mark, Marianne and daughter Tammy Randy, Grandchildren Michael, Jeremy, Nathan, Johnathan, Jennifer, Megan, and Angel. Special cousin Don White an wife Jeanette, most favorite niece Carmen Garrett Armistead George, and nephews Joshua and Joseph, daughter-in-law Sandra Thorla. At Lewis's request he was cremated, returned to Carole and no servives were held. I could not have gotten this far without the help and support of many people. Most especially Mr. Bobby Cannon at the S'port Firefighters Credit Union. He handled all Lewis's paperwork there, just as Lewis said he would. His many lifelong friends, Marvin Young, Vaughn Jordan, Glenn Flesher, Paul Oberle, Sr., Ron Mulford, David Burden, Ronnie Olague, Jack Leach, Billy Jordan, Willis Carter, GeneThompson, Thurman Speakes, David White and Mac Bankson. Lewis considered all to be his best friend. I cannot thank enough Mission Trail Baptist Hospital family. The wonderful card form Mr.Andrew Harris and the beautiful plant . My very best friends Kathy Monroe and Patsy Payne for their daily welfare phone calls. The beautiful card signed by so many people I've had the privelge to work for. Sharon Sutton who recently loss her husband but has sustained me with phone calls, emails and even made me smile with her facebook cartoons. My sincere appreciation goes to Rev. Tim Cranfill, who either has helicopter blades or angel wings on the roof of his car I think it's the angel wings,,, because he made it from NE Baptist to Mission Park Funeral Home South in record rime to be with me and have prayer over Lewis, no way can I say THANK YOU enough to the wonderful paramedics who made the call to our house that day. They knew what to do and did it. I have no names, don't remember faces all I can remember is they were big fellows, Thank you gentlemen. Lu-Lu as I called him could fix anything. He taught me many minor home repaire. But told me when all else failed duct tape or WD40 would get the job done. Lewis was a voracious reader, even cereal boxes. His favorite quotes were "Make light of that-that makes light of thee" and "You don't own things-things own you". Lewis loved his dog and cats. Shreveport Firefighters have a wonderful charity. Please consider a donation to that or a no kill animal shelter. That would be Lu-Lu smile.
