Tributes

Lilly Diane Lucas arrived peacefully in the arms of the Lord on June 12, 2023. Though her journey in life has ended, the path she took maps out the contours of a kind heart, a brilliant mind, and a resilient aptitude. Born on April 13, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, Lilly dedicated her life to generosity and care, helping raise her many siblings, fostering multiple children, making a home for the under-resourced on a one-acre plot of land, caring for her own mother in her later years, and always giving money whenever she could. Many of Lilly’s friends and family members can recount how she gave of her heart and resources over her lifetime, whether it be an ear to listen, money to pay a late bill, or the food off her plate. As guardian, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, Lilly exemplified selflessness to everyone in her life, and her home and land offered respite for many through the years, hosting parties, impromptu chats, and other celebrations. Her kindness will be missed but always remembered. Lilly was also a mathematician, accountant, tax preparer, and bookkeeper, working in some way with numbers across her varied career. Her mathematical sense and knowhow complimented her generosity, and she always knew how to ensure her children and grandchildren had what they needed and, sometimes, more. Through garage sales, thrifty spending, her work, and, of course, luxurious spending at times, she always provided for her children, who owe their lives and success to Lilly’s resourcefulness. They will never forget what Lilly sacrificed for them. Though she faced many health issues through her life, Lilly’s unfaltering independence and spirit rose her above every challenge she faced, leaving a legacy of resilience for her family to remember her by. Life was not always easy for Lilly, but she always, in some way, made it easier for others. Her legacy of kindness models for us all what a kind heart can look like amid hardship and sadness. Her generous spirit lives on each time we help each other—even when it’s hard or comes at great loss, as it did for her many times. Lilly is survived by her husband, Jose Alejandro Lucas; her children, daughter Alexis Muñoz, LMSW, and her husband Cruz Hernandez, her son Wilfredo Flores, PhD, and de- pendent Richard Flores; her siblings, Betty Louise Gonzalez, Daniel Lyssy, and Alex Kadura; her grandchildren, Anbriell, Mike, Cruz, Reuben, Arya Lilliane; as well as numerous other family members and friends. She is reunited in Heaven with her parents, Adolf and Theresa, and her brother, Joseph Kadura.
