Tributes

It is with great sorrow that we announce that our beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, Lois M. Powers, age 93, passed away peacefully in the comforts of her home and was called to our Lord on July 12th, 2019. Lois was born on May 5th, 1926 in Leming, Texas to Jose and Francisca Munoz. Lois was one of 7 children. As a child, she, her siblings, and her parents worked as sharecroppers. Years later, she worked the night shift as a dishwasher, cashier, and waitress at Havalah’s Café. Havalah’s Café is where she met the love of her life, S.E. Powers. Lois and S.E. married one month later on February 22, 1948. Before S.E. passed on October 8, 1960, they had 6 children. Three years later, Lois conceived and delivered her 7th child with Tom C. Trevino, Sr. Lois raised her 7 kids in the Victoria Courts, and provided for them by working in retail/sales at Joske’s Department Store in the shoe department. Joske’s went on to become Dillard’s, and after 15 years of service, retired from Dillard’s in 1987. After retirement, Lois went on to help her children raise her grandchildren. She so loved her family all the days of her life. Lois is survived by her 5 living children: Kenneth D. Powers, Janice E. Powers, Frances P. Martinez, Debra P. Gonzales, and Tom C. Trevino. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She has been reunited with her husband S. E. Powers, her two sons Samial Edward Powers and Albert Earl Powers, her brothers and her sisters: Pedro Munoz, Josephine Anguiano, Patricia Rodriguez, Helen Pacheco, Pablo Munoz and Felipe De La Rosa, as well as her parents, Jose and Francisca Munoz. Today as we grieve, we should also rejoice and celebrate her long life of 93 years that she shared with us. Although she has shed her physical body we know that she has been made new, fore she has been welcomed into the Kingdom of our Lord. She will no longer carry the burdens of worry or physical pain, and from now on shall be with us in spirit. She so believed in the power of our Lord, that it was just a matter of time before He would call her home.
