Lupe D. Fernandez, age 83, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, peacefully departed to be with the Lord on February 11, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on July 8, 1940, in San Patricio, Texas. Shortly after her birth, Lupe’s family relocated to San Antonio, Texas. From a tender age, she found joy in participating in cooking and homemaking activities alongside her grandmother. Until the age of 29, she resided in her childhood home with her grandmother, creating cherished memories together. Following this, she embarked on a new chapter of her life by marrying her husband, a beloved childhood friend and neighbor, and they started their journey together. She exemplified devotion as a mother and homemaker, deeply involved in her children's early years. For the past 26 years, Lupe carried the title of widow, residing in her cherished "pink casita." Despite her loss, she remained connected to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and best friend of over 50 years, Henrietta Cardenas. She found immense joy in their visits and treasured the precious moments shared during family gatherings and holidays hosted in her home. In her later years, Lupe found joy in word search puzzles, reading, and watching telenovelas. She cherished outings to bingo halls and casinos, deriving immense joy from them. Driven by her compassionate nature, she generously extended monetary donations to charities. We will deeply miss her empathetic, kind, and loving heart. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Santiago Fernandez Jr.; her parents, Mariano Casas and Angelita Rodriguez; her grandmother, Julia Contreras; her daughter Sally Ann Fernandez; her son, Robert Fernandez; her sister, Julia Martinez; her brothers, Nicolas Rodriguez and Martin Rodriguez; and her granddaughter, Kaitlin Castilleja. She is survived by her daughters, Pearl Cavazos, Patricia Castilleja, Marie A. Fernandez; her sons, Santiago Fernandez III and Steve Fernandez; her sisters, Rosemary Sandoval, Angelita Rodriguez, and Mary Sandoval; and her brothers, Mariano Casas and Andy Rodriguez. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Palm Heights Mortuary from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 6:30 pm. The family will depart at 11:30 am on Friday, February 16, 2024, for the Mass of the Resurrection at St. James Apostle Catholic Church at 12:00 noon, followed by burial at San Fernando Cemetery #2 at 1:30 pm. The pallbearers, Patrick Castilleja, Steve Fernandez Jr., Santiago Fernandez IV, Justin Gonzales, Paul Cavazos, and Christopher Hernandez will carry her memory with love and reverence.
