Tributes

Solano Manuel A. Solano Sr., age 86, went into the presence of our Lord on October 17, 2012. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 1, 1926 to Marcelino and Esther Solano. He graduated from Lanier High School in 1945 and was drafted into the U.S.Army. He was a veteran of World War ll and served in the 11th airborne division. He was a life member of the Alamo Silver Wings Airborne Association and the VFW Post 9186, and the American Legion. He retired from Kelly Air Force Base after 35 years of service. Mr. Solano was generous giving of himself to family, church, and community. He was an active member of St. Philip of Jesus, St. Benedict's, and St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church. He was a member of the Men's Club and CYO organizations. He coached his children's baseball and softball teams and attended the games and activities of all his grandchildren. Mr. Solano valued education that he strived to provide both a Catholic and college education for all his children. He went further by encouraging his relatives to achieve this goal in their lives. Mr. Solano was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Hortense and his parents; his brothers Pedro, Marcelino Jr., Anacleto, Silvino, and Jesus; his sisters Antonia, Micaela, Carmen, Vickie, and Amparo. Mr. Solano will be missed by his children Jeanette Rodriguez, Manuel Jr., Lisa Guerra Michael, and Paul Cindy. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, his brothers Eliodoro and Ruben Solano, and his sisters Frances Pedro and Esther Solano. His family wishes to thank all his caretakers from Acuity Hospital, Pecan Valley Rehab., VA Home Bases Primary Care Clinic, Tranquility Home Care, and Odyssey Hospice. A special thanks to Yvette Alderete, Michelle Maynez, Ernesto Ruiz, Dominic Rodriguez, and Christopher McCauley. Our Dad is now with his High School Sweetheart Hortense and Jesus for eternity. Services Visitation will be Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from 5:00-9:00pm. A Scripture Service will be held at 7:00pm. Mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 10:15am followed by burial services at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to scholarship programs at the higher education institutions of your choice.
