Loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Marcelo R. Castro went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at the age of 81. He was born on May 24, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas. Marcelo is preceded in death by his parents, Andres and Soledad Castro and siblings Micaela Soto, Esther Munoz, Janie Mendoza, Alejandro Castro, Richard Castro, and Rosie Castro. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lucia R. Castro; children Teresa Castro (Henry DeLeon), Marcelo Castro, Jr. (Matilda), Roger Castro (Elizabeth Garcia) and Angelica Castro-Hernandez (Johnny); siblings Andres Castro, Connie Yanez and Amparo Shoop; grandchildren Henry M. DeLeon (Lisa), Lucie N. Castro, Gabriella I. Castro, Reana M. Palmer, Marcelo Andres Castro (Elizza), Christopher J. DeLeon, Brisa Sky Hernandez and Ava E. Hernandez; great-grandchildren Kaiden DeLeon, Jaiden DeLeon, Anastasia DeLeon, Jayla Ilene Espina, Aurora DeLeon, Michael Vincent Espina and Baby Castro-Costilla on the way; godchildren Rudy Gonzalez, Veronica Gonzalez, Patricia A. Torres and Katherine Gonzalez along with other loving family members, nieces, nephews and last but not least his dog Max. Marcelo was a hardworking man who loved his job at Texas Meat Purveyors where he was employed for 38 years & known to his co-workers as "Buddy". He was a dedicated family man, loved his weekends at home with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Nothing made him happier than a house full of food, love, and laughter. He loved to watch all sports, but his favorite of course was football Sunday!!! GO COWBOYS!!! He was a big fan of the outdoors including barbecues, maintaining his yard, and detailing his cars & truck to name a few. Marcelo was loved and respected by anyone who crossed his path, he was simply known as "Castro" by his friends. His passion for family, holidays, and love of laughter with loved ones was the sparkle in his eyes. Marcelo will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. "We love you forever and never forget you Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa." Visitation will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower with a procession to depart the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park South.
