Tributes

Margaret “Lita” Edwards was born on December 17, 1930 in Blaine, Kansas, and passed away at the age of 95, surrounded by her loving family. Lita was the daughter of Constantine Solas and Margaret Sheahon Solas. She received her formal education from the Benedictine Sisters from grade school to college and beyond. Graduating valedictorian of her high school class, she received a scholastic scholarship to Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, Kansas, where she majored in Biology. She then completed a one-year internship as a medical laboratory scientist at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Lita worked in the hematology and bacteriology departments until her marriage in 1957 to Dr. R. L. Patrick Edwards. They were married for 68 wonderful years. Lita was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the Bexar County Medical Auxiliary, and the Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital Auxiliary. She also volunteered at the Ivy Cottage, St. Luke’s Catholic Church and Alter Society, and was a member of Oak Hills Country Club. Her most treasured affiliation, however, was as a member of a very special group of ladies who called themselves the “Therapy Group”. They brought laughter, support, and a lifelong bond of true friendship. Her fond memories of them continued to bring a smile to her heart until her death. Lita loved to read, enjoyed her book club, and a good game of bridge. She was gregarious, cheerful, and always fashionable. She would strike up conversations with anyone and always had a smile. Simply put, Lita loved people. She lived for her family, had a wonderful marriage, adored her husband, and loved the Lord. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren have forged everlasting strength and stability from her powerful roots. Her family will remember her as strong, intelligent, caring, and full of unconditional love. Her joyful spirit and love will continue to guide us, always. Lita was predeceased by her parents, her husband (R. L. Patrick Edwards), her infant daughter Maureen Edwards, two sisters, Rosemary O’Conner and Dorothy Lidster, and two brothers, Michael Solas and John Solas. She is survived by her four children, Michael Edwards (Norma), Lee Ann Edwards Powell (James), Susan Edwards, Amy Edwards DuCharme (Justin), five granddaughters, Erin English (Austin), Caitlin Bernstein (Braeden), Elizabeth DuCharme, Caroline DuCharme, Claire Powell, two great grandsons, Brooks Alan English and Braeden Michael Bernstein, and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Beverly Brown for providing Lita with so many years of support, and to her amazing and compassionate caregivers, Maria Ramos and Linda Gonzales, who all became her cherished friends. A private family burial will be held at Mission Park cemetery. We invite everyone to join us for a celebration of life at Oak Hills Country Club, 5403 Fredericksburg Rd., on Thursday, August 13, 2026 beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Lita’s beloved childhood church, St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 13305 KS-16, Blaine, KS, 66549 would be greatly appreciated.
