as a Margaret Thompson Maynard San Antonio, TX Margaret 79 years young was born December, 1 1928 in New Orleans, LA went to heaven to meet her Lord April 4, 2008 at 5:15 AM. At the time of her passing she was at Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio. Margaret was the daughter of James and Mary Thompson from Natalbany, LA. Those left to treasure her many memories include two sisters, Mary Thompson Massey of San Antonio, TX and Betty Jeanne Thompson North, Newport, RI, and a brother Calvin Paul Sonny Thompson Sr. of Hammond, LA. She is also survived by her dearest and best friend Lenora C. Mueck of San Antonio, TX and many nieces and nephews. Margaret dedicated her life to her Catholic faith, Irish heritage, and love of her country, family, friends and her teaching career. Margaret lived a rich fulfilled life and will be lovingly remembered by all of her family and friends. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents James W. Thompson and Mary Howard Martens, a brother Walter Buddy Martens Jr. and a sister Bonnie Compton. Margaret served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1949 to 1954 when she received an honorable medical discharge. She held the position of Staff Sergeant. Margaret's most significant assignment was in Tokyo, Japan. She received the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal and UN Medal. Margaret received her early education in Natalbany, Louisiana and Graduated Hammond High School in Hammond, LA. After Margaret was discharged from the military she obtained her Baccalaureate degree in elementary education from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. Margaret began her career as an elementary school teacher upon graduation. She taught at many elementary schools during her 31 years of teaching service. In 1998 Margaret was acknowledged for excellence distinguished educator in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. She was nominated by one of her students of merit who stated that she "made a difference" in their life. Margaret was incredibly dedicated to her students and was a passionate student advocate. During her breaks from teaching her ideal vacation involved traveling around the country in an RV with her family, friends and pets. Hobbies included taking care of her pets and working in her yard. Margaret had a big heart and was a compassionate animal lover. Services Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm followed with a Rosary Monday April 7, 2008 at 7:00 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North at 3401 Cherry Ridge, San Antonio, TX 78230. Chapel Services will be Tuesday April 8, 2008 at 9:30 AM at Mission park followed by interment at 11:00 AM at Fort Sam Cemetery, in San Antonio, TX.
