Margarita Santiago Martinez went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2016 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 89. She was born to Aurelia Bautista Santiago and Francisco Santiago in Penitas, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Cipriano Martinez, son Leandro Martinez, sisters Agustina Villalpando, Angelita Perez and Carolina Gracia and brother Tiburcio Santiago. She is survived by her children Homero Emma, Altagracia "Grace"Andres, Mary "Virgen" Santos Juan Roberta, Cipriano Jr. Ruby, Margarito "Mark"Diane, Mario Patricia, Margarita "Margaret" Vicente along with 25 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren and two brothers, Gregorio Hilda Santiago, Francisco Lydia Santiago and numerous nieces and nephews. During her days here with us she touched so many lives and was very deeply loved by family and friends and gave us a lifetime of love and memories. Margarita was a hard working woman all of her life who welcomed family and friends to her home. She made sure that whoever arrived at her home was also fed and did not leave empty handed. Homemade tortillas and meals was something that she was well known for. For many years her children would gather at her home on Sunday mornings to enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet that she had lovingly prepared. Scoldings is also something that she was well known for. Her scoldings were her way of showing that she cared about you. Reasons for scoldings ranged from her disapproval for your behavior to you taking too long to come visit her. However, her scoldings would make you feel reassured that you were loved. After the scoldings it was not uncommon for her to tell you one of her favorite sayings, "Don't worry, Be happy!" These short stories are just a small peak into her life. However, we are blessed to be left with over 89 years worth of beautiful memories. Margarita will be greatly missed by all, but definitely never forgotten! Visitation will be held Friday May 20, 2016 from 5-9 p.m. with a 7p.m. rosary at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South 1700 S.E. Military Dr. 78214. Funeral services will continue Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Mission San Jose- 6701 San Jose Dr. 78214. Interment to follow at Mission Park South Cemetary.
