Margery Alice nee Worley Murphy escaped the mortal constraints of this earthly world to be with her eternal father and in the arms of her loving husband, Charles, on February 14, 2016. She leaves a grieving yet joyous family who celebrate a life well lived. She was born on November 24, 1933 in a rural area of her beloved state of Alabama. Despite living in Texas most of her life, she continued to exude the gentility and grace of a southern lady. She was a high school beauty queen, her high school's head cheerleader, and fell in love with and married the high school quarterback. She literally "left the farm" and moved from Alabama to Mississippi, and eventually to Texas in the early 1960's. Charles and Margery followed opportunities they hoped would be best for their three sons. Margery was a homemaker and mother in the classic sense. It was what she wanted to be. She considered it her calling. It was her chosen field of work and she excelled at it. Her life was lived for her family with no exceptions and no apologies. When the family moved, as we often did, we would live in a hotel or motel until we found a house that could be afforded near the best school in town. Education and providing a better life for her boys was not just important, it was paramount to any personal needs or wishes she might have. She would wash the same pair of jeans every night until she could afford a second pair. She stretched a dollar until it shattered into pennies and then did the best she could with those pennies. She is the most successful woman we have ever known if success is a loving, healthy, happy, educated, spiritual, and cohesive family. She leaves a legacy none of us will ever forget. Margery worked with her beloved husband from 1986 until his death in 1997 in a business they built together, Murf's Better Burgers. She continued to run the company for several years after his passing, until she retired. She spent her time in her last years watching her nine grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren grow. She loved her church, her congregation, her friends, her flowers, but mostly she cherished the love of her life, Charles until her last breath. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Charles William Bill Murphy and Tisa, Kenneth Ray Ken Murphy and Linda, and Michael Lynn Mike and Lynn. Her nine grandchildren are Erin Ross, Patrick Murphy, Taylor Murphy, Brian Murphy, Kevin Murphy, Jordan Murphy, and Kelsey Murphy, Kristen Weiler, and Michael Murphy. Services for Margery will be held at San Pedro Church of Christ, 311 Jackson-Keller Road, San Antonio at 10 am, Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Her minister and a long time friend of the family, Charles Johannsen will officiate. A memorial fund to honor the life of Margery Alice Murphy has been established at Mission OKC, Inc. 8701 NW 157th Way, OKC, OK 73013.
