Maria Ofelia Castillo, 83, from San Antonio, passed away peacefully September 18, 2019, with her family by her side. She is now with our heavenly father. She was born on September 10, 1936 in Torreon, Coahuila Mexico. In her early years she worked for the Mexican government. Later, married, became a citizen of the United States, a Director of the Matachines Society, belonged to various organizations, a dedicated catholic to St. Leonards Church, and a volunteer & assistant to teachers at Vestal Elementary School. She married Felix G. Castillo in 1964, and preceded in death by loving husband in 2004 and her parents Jesus Ramirez, Refugio Flores, & Carmen Haro and Sister Ma. Elena. She is survived by her brothers & sisters, Roberto, Dora Luz, Christina, Gloria, Leticia, Jesus, Blanca Estella, Irma, Raul, Maricarmen and her children Maria Teresa Perez (husband Abel Perez), John (wife Gina), Felix (wife Nadine), Jesse (wife Jennifer) & Suan Chiw (wife Toni). She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Gregory R Pedrazine, Gabriella A Pedrazine, Evelyn Adela Perez, Brandon John Castillo, Alyssa Desiree Castillo, Joshua Dean Castillo, Jared Michael Castillo, Jordan Lee Castillo, Isabella Rose Castillo, Sydney Morgan Castillo, Aiden Matthew Castillo, Suan Anthony Chiw, Sean Christian Chiw, & three great grandchildren, Julian Felix Castillo-Cabrera, Kayleb Anthony Chiw, Charlie Ann Castillo. Maria Ofelia was a wonderful, loving, caring wife and mother to her family, and an amazing friend to many. Enjoyed a first job as an accountant with the Mexican government. Married and moved to San Antonio in 1964, and was excited to become a citizen of the United States. She loved to travel back to Torreon to visit family, but also loved an occasional trip to a beach. As Director of the Matachines Society, she loved to dance and lead her group of dedicated children & adults dressed in traditional red attire to numerous functions for many years. A dedicated catholic to St. Leonards Church and a member of the St. Leonards Guadalupanas, providing leadership, many works of charity and service to the church & rectory. She dedicated over 50 years of service to Vestal Elementary school as member of their PTA, and volunteer & assistant to teachers and administrators. She spent countless hours reading to children at the school and will always be remembered by them and the families she touched. Memorial Services will be conducted from 5:00 – 9:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00PM Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. There will be a procession from the funeral home at 11:30 AM on Monday, September 23, 2019 to St. Leonards Catholic Church for a mass at 12:00 PM. Services are concluded after the mass and all are welcome to join the family for a celebration lunch at the St. Leonards Hall. A small ceremony will be held for Maria Ofelia at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 9:30 AM. ----- “God has not taken her from us.
