MARIA del CARMEN ORTEGA RAMIREZ AUGUST 8, 1928 – FEBRUARY 12, 2015 Maria del Carmen Ortega viuda de Ramirez, our beloved mother was born on August 8, 1928, the oldest of 4 children in the small town of Jaral del Progreso, in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. In her youth, she was doted on by her uncles; never wanting for anything growing up. She was outgoing, headstrong and stunningly beautiful. One day, a young man, Joaquin Jesus Ramirez, a sailor in the U.S. Navy, visiting relatives, during WWII, came into her life and swept her away to a new life in "Los Estados Unidos". It was love at first sight. They took up new roots in San Antonio, Texas after the war. Our father, God rest his soul, preceded her in death in 1987. From the start of her married life, to her last breath, her role as wife, mother and teacher of right and wrong became her passion. Our mother bore five children, son Joaquin, the eldest, husband to his wife Jobie, followed by daughter Anne M. Guyer Ramirez, partner to Zaragoza Cuellar, son Edward Ramirez, daughter Bricia Ramirez Alderete, widow to her late husband Humberto, and daughter Carmen Trujillo Ramirez. Our mother was our role model, our anchor, and our hero. She was the embodiment of all that is good in a person, a wife and matriarch to our family. She never waivered in her dedication to her children, or to the Catholic Faith. Even taking a turn at employment with the Ursuline Nuns to ensure her children received a Catholic school education. Everything she did in her life was centered on her children, their faith and their education. She is survived by her brother Eduardo Ortega from Mexico City, her children, her grandchildren; Max Puente, Nicholas Puente, Rochelle Muniz, Jill Ramirez, Kristie Alderete, Brianna Sanchez and her husband Juan, and Gabriela Gonzales. Last but not least, her two great grandchildren; Cole Hudson Ray and Christian Alexander Guerrero. We will miss you "Meembo", but your voice, your example and your final wishes to remain a strong, caring and cohesive family will live on with us forever. SERVICES Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Monday, February 16, 2015 with a rosary to begin at 7:00 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church with interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery II.
