Mario Acevedo 71, sailed into the setting sun to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on June 26th 2024. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 19, 1952. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Atanacio ‘Tony’ Acevedo, Maria “Cookie” Carmona Acevedo, and his brother Sergio Acevedo. He leaves behind two daughters Celina Monique Acevedo and Mirella Elisa Acevedo Mesa (Ramiro), two granddaughters Marisol Ariana Mesa and Karolynna Starr Acevedo Mesa. Also, Brothers Rolando Acevedo (Hermelinda), Jaime Acevedo (Josefina), Benito Acevedo. He also has many nieces, nephews, godsons, goddaughters and many friends, associates and people who will never forget his beautiful and facetious mannerisms. Mario is survived by his wife Deborah Acevedo where they resided in The Villages, Florida. Mario Acevedo graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1970. He contemplated becoming a seminarian as he served as an altar boy for many years at Sacred Heart. Instead, he pioneered a new family tradition by joining the United States Navy. He Served on the USS Sierra and Mount Whitney, eventually retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. In 1985, Mario graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Texas San Antonio. He worked civil service at Kelly AFB until it closed and was reassigned to Charlston, SC. He ended his career from civil service in Warner Robbins, GA and retired to The Villages, Florida. Although his career ended, his work continued as a teacher of Spanish at The Villages University, volunteered for soup kitchens, delivery person for meals on wheels, and consistent participation in the Knights of Columbus as a Knight, Grand Knight, and District Warden. Mario had an incredibly enigmatic, yet gregarious character. He loved to dance and pursued learning many varieties of dance styles through ballroom dancing lessons. He left a permanent impression on every person he met. His creativity, humor, and adventurous nature is instilled in all who loved him. He was surrounded by friends and family when he left this world. He will be dearly missed, and as he always said, he was “just passing through.” In lieu of flowers ….
