Martha Steves Peet February 9, 1941 June 10, 2024 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Martha Steves Peet. She lived a good life of 83 years. Martha is preceded in death by her mother Joan Cahill Steves, her father Sam Bell Steves and her sisters Elizabeth Steves Shannon and Joan Steves Devine, all from San Antonio. Also preceding her was her husband Edwin Jones Peet. Martha and Edwin met when they were 14 years old. She was pitching in a neighborhood softball game in her front yard. Her future husband was in the neighborhood playing with some friends when they were invited to play. Our mother taunted our father at bat. He showed her by drilling the ball right in her face. There was blood everywhere. Our dad ran home, which was about 5 miles, recovered his composure and returned to her house to apologize the same day. They ended up talking for hours and married 4 years later. After 20 years of marriage, Edwin passed, and Martha has longed to be by his side ever since. Martha was funny, witty and had a way of letting you know exactly how she felt about something, either with a curt look or quick comment. She found joy through the years as a member of the Junior League of San Antonio, serving as a Docent at the San Antonio Zoo and needlepointing Christmas stockings for her children and grandchildren. She always enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and had the opportunity to take all her grandchildren on ‘once in a lifetime’ trips with her to fabulous places like San Francisco, Chicago, New York City and Yellowstone National Park. She loved everything about nature - especially wolves! Then Martha suffered a stroke at age 62. It left her with a Cognitive Impairment. She would spend the next twenty-two years trying her hardest to get back to the way she was. She tried to play like nothing happened, but we all knew. It was a hard thing to live through, but we all did what we could do to see that she was happy and comfortable. Martha is survived by her three children: Edwin James Peet (Susan) of Bulverde, TX, Joanie Peet McMullan (Ashby) of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX and John-David Peet (Randi) of Highlands Ranch, CO. Eleven Grandchildren: Brian, Jennifer (Juan Felipe), and Kevin (Taylor) Peet, Lindsay Morrissey (Matt), Lee McMullan, Lance McMullan (Julia), Luke McMullan (Lauren), Lexie Ridings (Jeff), Casie Yalamanchili (Rajiv), Travis Peet (Kenzie) and Mary-Katherine Peebles (Trevor). Twelve Great-Grandchildren: Paxton Peet, Alyson & Payton Peet, Colton, Catherine, Anna, Joelle and Emily Morrissey, Zoe & SummerRain McMullan, Halle McMullan, Lily Martha Ridings and Scarlett Peet. She is also survived by her sisters Bebe Steves Rosser of San Antonio, and Julie Steves Powers (Greg) of Harlingen, TX along with their children, grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. Pallbearers are Ashby McMullan, Matt Morrissey, Brian Peet, Kevin Peet, Juan Felipe Beltran and Bill Pfeiffer. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests any donations be made in her name to the National Park Service. That would thrill her. The Celebration of Life Service Thursday June 13, at 1 pm Mission Park South Chapel Internment following at Mission South Steves Monument
