Martha Mendel Schramek, 99, was called by God and his angels Wednesday morning, February 21, 2024. She was born November 18, 1924 to Willie and Louisa Mendal of Schulenburg, Texas. While living in Schulenburg, she met a handsome and dashing serviceman named Ignace “Spike” Schramek with whom she shared 56 wonderful years of marriage and raised five beautiful children. Martha retired from Northeast Independent School District after 20 satisfying years as an aid to special needs children. She was a long-standing member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and St. John’s Catholic Church where she sold prayer candles until her move into Brookdale Assisted Living – Hollywood Park in May 2018. She loved to play dominoes, Bingo, Kings-in-the-Corner and have a little “Schluck” (beer/mixed drink) or Eggnog (spiked of course!) She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother And great-great grandmother. She was faithful prayer warrior who had a beautiful heart and soul. She had an amazing knack for making you feel totally loved. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Louise Mendel, her husband, Ignace Schramek, her three brothers, Herbert, Erwin and Willie Jr. and their spouses, Ollie, Irene and Georgie. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Boudreaux and husband, Victor and her children, Michele Martin, Melissa Wilganowski and Marcy Wiley of Bremond, Tx; her son, Allen and wife, Rosemary and their sons, Chad Schramek from Plano, Tx and Mark Schramek of San Antonio; her daughter Shirley Mohling and husband, Jim and their son, James Michael of San Angelo; her son, Dennis and wife, Melissa and their daughter Kristen Schramek Bates; and her daughter, Debbie Hofstetter and her husband, John and their sons, Justin and Wade. She also leaves behind 21 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews whom she all loved and who will cherish her memory. We will all miss her tremendously and will forever remember her wonderful smile, prayers and the beautiful woman that she was! Visitation will be Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 6-7 with the Rosary beginning at 7:00 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, March 1, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1602 Thousand Oaks. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, James Mohling, Chad Schramek, Mark Schramek, Justin Hofstetter, Wade Hofstetter, Brian Wilganowski and Matthew Bates. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made online to the Association of the Miraculous Medal at www.amm.org.
