Tributes

Mary P. Cantu was born in San Antonio, Texas on January 24, 1935. She entered Heaven's gates on Tuesday, January 19, 2016. Mary attended Fox Tech High School and was a Red Jacket pep squad member. She also bowled and played softball for many years with her friends. An avid sports fan, she rarely missed watching a San Antonio Spurs or Dallas Cowboys game on television. With her devout religious faith, Mary was a lifelong member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and Oblate Mission's Lourdes Grotto. Her fondest memories were made praying over people and sharing the Word of the Lord. Faith, family and friends were Mary's loves in her life. She delighted in spending time and traveling with her family. Her laugh was infectious, her heart was full, and she will be greatly missed. All who knew her, loved her. She leaves a legacy. Mary was predeceased by her parents Cecilio and Andrea Martinez, brother Cecil Martinez, and sister Isabelle Elsik. Mary is survived by her loving husband of almost 61 years, Augustine Cantu Jr.; her son Ernest Cantu and his wife Kathy of Fort Myers, FL; daughter Cynthia Cantu of San Antonio, TX; daughter Rebecca Villasana and husband Michael of Houston, TX; son Gabriel Cantu and wife Elizabeth of San Antonio, TX; and sister Mary Helen Abrams of San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren Crystal Romanelli and husband Marcus, Zachary Villasana, Marissa Villasana, Alexia Cantu, Monica Cantu, Cliff Gilchrist, Abbey Cosden, Sam Cantu, Serena Cantu, and Jonah Cantu. She had two great-grandchildren Mason and Avery Romanelli. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Monday, January 25, 2016, with visition beginning at 6:00 PM till 9:00 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church at 8:15 AM on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, with a procession to follow the Mass at 9:15 AM for interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. 1 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul.
