Mary Lou Gomez, a woman of boundless love, laughter, and joy, danced her way into this world on August 25, 1927, in Gary, Indiana, as the cherished daughter of Luis Martinez and Maria Rodriguez. She was raised with her sisters and brother in Tepatitlan, Mexico, where her adventurous spirit began to blossom. At the age of 21, she embarked on a journey back to Indiana with her family, continuing her remarkable life's voyage. Mary Lou's life was truly an extraordinary journey, one that found its purpose on the dance floor of Gary, Indiana, where she met the love of her life, Encarnacion Gomez. Their fateful meeting, as they swayed to the music, marked the beginning of a beautiful love story that would last a lifetime. On November 10, 1956, they exchanged vows and embarked on a journey of love, laughter, and family. Together, Mary Lou and Encarnacion forged a family bound by love and unity. By his side, she became a steadfast pillar of strength and support. Their children were the embodiment of their love, and their unbreakable bond remains an enduring testament to their devotion. Mary Lou was also incredibly proud of her son, Luis Gomez, a Marine Corps veteran who journeyed ahead of her into the afterlife. In 1994, Mary Lou and Encarnacion embarked on a new chapter in their lives when they moved to San Antonio, Texas, immersing themselves in a vibrant community and embracing a welcoming city that would soon become their cherished home. She reveled in the rich Mexican culture that surrounded her, enriching her life in countless ways. In her journey to the next world, Mary Lou was joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, Encarnacion Gomez, her son, Luis Gomez, and her parents, Luis Martinez and Maria Rodriguez. Waiting to embrace her were her sister, Mercedes Diaz, and brother-in-law, Joe Diaz. Her brother, Rodulfo Martinez, and her brother-in-law, Carl Castillo, as well as her sister-in-law, Josephine Martinez, had also embarked on this final voyage before her. Mary Lou's legacy lives on through her surviving family members: her son Antonio Gomez, daughters Martha (Manuel) Hernandez and Margie Gomez, and a host of cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She adored her grandchildren: Angie Perez, Stefanie Hernandez, MariaAnna Gomez, Victor L Hernandez (Kassandra), Victor A Gomez, Dante Jacob Marotta (Sabrina), and Maya Gomez. Her great-grandchildren, Elyssa, Bryanna, Nyla, Gavin Lee, Elyanna, Aryanna, Liam, Jaxson, Octavia, and Baby Hernandez held a special place in her heart along with her great-great-grandchildren, Raheem and Scarlett. Mary Lou's life was a symphony of laughter, music, and playful humor. She danced through life with the same passion that ignited her love story with Encarnacion. Her backyard garden blossomed with her tender care, and her love for her faithful dog, Max, knew no bounds. At the YMCA, she found solace in her active pursuits, a testament to her vibrant spirit. Her heart swayed to the melodies of mariachi music, a testament to her deep connection to her Mexican heritage. Mary Lou Gomez was not just a matriarch; she was a beacon of strength, joining the ranks of our revered ancestors. Visitation will be held on September 8, 2023, at Mission Park Medical Center from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Rosary at 6:30 PM. The funeral service will take place on September 9, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Mission Park Medical Center. Mary Lou will find her final resting place beside her beloved husband at Mission Burial Park North. As we bid farewell to Mary Lou Gomez, we find solace in knowing that her laughter will continue to echo in our hearts, and her love will forever be an unwavering guiding light in our lives. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the same love and joy she so generously shared with all of us.
